WARNING to new Vodafone PAYG customers!
Hi folks,
I got a new Vodafone PAYG mobile today and a few minutes after setting it up I got a text message through saying: 46010 Subject: Not Registered..... The above message had a DOWNLOAD button so I clicked it thinking it was an important update from Vodafone who I assumed was the only company that knew my phone number....I was WRONG!!!! I went to the Vodafone website and chatted LIVE to an assistant and he said the message was from a third party "Text Info Service" company (winplc.com) and I had been charged! He told me to call 0845 130 9911 and get the service canceled as Vodafone couldn't do it. Vodafone did not seem to have any trouble passing on my new mobile number to this DODGY company though who specialises in scams and conning people!!!!! If anyone else gets the above text message the DELETE the thing immediately, and certainly dont hit the download button! |

Although VF's customer service does pride itself on how shoddy it can be, there's nothing to suggest they passed your number on to anyone.
It's possible they assigned you a number from their pool that used to belong to a former customer who was signed up to something. Not every number with a new phone is original and unused. |

I hate Vodafone I'm on T mobile however all my family are on Vodafone and they've had no signal for 2 weeks, Vodafone have not given an ETA and only compensated them £30.

Or they could have just been guessing random numbers. For example, if the spammers know there is a valid number starting 07931 288 xxx they can try texting all the numbers from 07931 288 000 up to 07931 288 999 |

Yes...Vodafone are rubbish, check out my other thread about the trouble I've had with my Huawei Ascend G300, which I'm sure is caused by Vodafone! I've only been with Vodafone 3 days and I'm going bald already due to the stress..LOL!

Vodafone can look up the owners of all shortcodes like 46010 so it's not surprising that they knew who they were and you are not likely to be the first person to complain about them either. |

Been with Vodafone for over 2 years now, had no real problems, i certainly don't get spam texts. i do get the odd text from Vodafone to tell me about changes and that is it.
My experience with vodafone this time around is a lot better than when I was with the years ago. the only minor problem was when they had to replace the mast on the local college for a smaller one while the college was being rebuilt. As for the OP problem, as been said before, numbers are recycled. |

I take the G300 back to the shop, its tested and the assistant had the same problem calling it, he brings out another G300, it has the same trouble, he tries other SIMs in both phone, still problems. I get a refund. Next day I visit another store and buy the G300 again hoping they have a different batch. I get home, test it SAME problems calling it. I phone Vodafone, they check my account, everythings normal. Several hours later I try the calling the phone, SUCCESSFUL each time!!! So dont know what caused it. Also, since having my second phone I get a misleading 46010text message telling me I'm not registered so I register thinking it was an update from Vodafone. I asked Vodafone what the 46010 message was for, they say its from a third party and I have been CHARGED for a cr#p service I didn't want. I cancel the service, I then continue t get bombarded with 46010/46012 messages - over 10 in 24hours! Luckily they have now stopped. Now everything is sorted I am VERY pleased with the G300, its amazing what the thing can do for under £100. In fact I cannot understand my anyone spend £600 or £40 per month on an iPhone or similar! I've download several games from Google Play, played videos (inc BBC iPlayer) and just cant find anyhing that slows it down! Even maps and web pages are smooth and quick to download. If anybody is considering a smart phone the G300 is the ONE....Seriously!!!! Nuff said! By the way, I thought the Vodafone customer service was good, the LIVE chat is very useful and beats messing around with emails and phone calls! |

You're missing my point - twice now I've said I've found VF to have crap service. But you suggesting there was something underhand going on regarding you getting that message immediately and VF knowing all the information about who it came from is stretching the imagination a bit too far seeing as there are legitimate reasons why it could have occurred.

vodafone do pass new registrations on to a third party, they do it with contract customers too. the third party then calls up and tries to flog insurance and that kind of thing. obviously once the number is out of vodafone hands anything can happen.
but also new numbers are issued consecutively or in blocks so someone can buy one sim and text the numbers around it. |

It seems you may be correct, check out the reply to the email I sent to winplc.com who must be IMImobile as well, I've removed the persons name though: Hi, Thank you for your email. I have checked the mobile number that you have provided and I cannot see any messages from the IMImobile Platform. I have checked the shortcode numbers that you have provided and I have established that these shortcode numbers are operated by Vodafone for their Vodafone Live Alert Services. I would therefore suggest that you contact Vodafone Directly to discuss the service they provide. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind Regards ############## ------------- ############## Customer Services Administrator Phone: +44 (0)1494 750543 Email: ###########@imimobile.com Web: www.imimobile.com If the above is correct then VODAFONE were responsible for the bombardment of text messages I received, and they denied it and told me it was winplc.com! |
