Morrisons appear to be stopping selling blu rays

I reported here some months back that morrisons were considering stopping selling them and was laughed at, as usual its appears I am once again right.

A friend told me today that down in essex 3 stores they visted have now stopped selling them, appears by comments on other forums its happening in many parts of the country.
Sad state of events and proves just how blu ray has not taken off in supermarkets. Dont be surprised to see other supermarkets following suite now.

This doesn't actually surprise me. Their selection in my nearest store has been quite poor of late, especially in regards to new releases. They didn't stock The Descendants or Puss In Boots on Blu Ray, and infact they didn't even stock Puss In Boots on DVD either which i thought was quite surprising.

The funny thing is, as Morrisons seem to be cutting back on their entertainment selection, my nearest ASDA seems to be increasing their selection, and not counting the bargain bin DVD section it would actually seem that they're stocking more Blu Rays than DVD at the moment.

My local Morrisions are not only still stocking Blu Ray but still have latest releases on sale. What is really poor is the CD section where most of them now are budget CD's and
pre-owned CD's for £2.

However if I want DVD I'll get it from Amazon who are not only usually cheaper but offer free p&p if you are prepared to wait a few days.

My local Morrisons have stopped selling new chart releases and only now offering bargain bucket offerings of dvd and blurays that are a few years old.

While Amazon are still my preferred supplier, it was nice to be able to pick up a usually matched price on a new release. For example, they sold the Game of Thrones bluray for under £30, when Amazon were offering for a few quid more.

Hope they change their policy and revert.

So what we have here is that a few people have reported that their local Morrisons aren't selling Blu's anymore. No actual announcement from Morrisons themselves.

Hmmm, yes Geordie"lady" - proof indeed

As usual you always quote your "friends" up and down the country and we're just to accept that.

And anyway, who bloody cares whether Morrisons or stop selling Blu's as they're not very good at it. Most Supermarkets are crap at stuff like that because it's not really their market. The staff don't have the knowledge for those products. Asda get away with it because they'll sell anything and get very good buy-in deals.

I can't quite work you out, you obviously like films and buy Blu-rays but your whole attitude comes across as though you want them to fail. Strange!

I've noticed this in my local Morrison's - they have some new releases on Blu but not all. The Blu section is set out in a chart style but it's not been updated for months - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Pirahna 3D and Downton Abbey have been there for ages.

Is it a common theme with the supermarkets though? I looked in all the main ones for The Help on Blu and none of them had it in stock.

Good post.

geordielady appears to live in some alternate universe where Blu-rays are sometimes 'bad' and are being stamped out ........ by supermarkets. Oh no! Shock, horror! The sky is falling! etc.

Oh yes, and my smug, self satisfied award goes to gerdielady for her comment: "as usual its appears I am once again right". I honestly cannot understand her irrational and variable hatred towards Blu-ray, and her constant need to prove to the world that she is right.

btw dear, it's 'following suit', not 'following suite'.

P.S. My local Morrisons have plenty of Blu-rays, and a mate of a friend who knows a guy who's another mate of this guy down the pub ......... said that all of his vast family are finding ample supplies of Blu-rays in all of their local supermarkets .........

The thing is I had a few trolls on my back for weeks giving me grief when I said morrisons was going to make a decison on this (and appears they are back here and still cant accept the truth rolleyes), I got the info from a very reliable source so knew it was right. Not sure if its nationwide or it just gonna be certain stores but whatever its not good news. My local tescos superstore has cut back on their blu rays by over 50% since xmas and even my sainsburys who had a big selection have not cut back. My morrisons had blu rays last week so will find out if my superstore has stopped.

I think this could be the start of the end of seeing blu ray in supermarkets, pretty sad really. My contact is in the states at present so when he gets back will find out if its gonna be nationwide or not.
TBH its not shocking news as one of the tabloids said back in 2011 that morrisions are considering dropping blu rays, I think they postponed the decision but now appears they feel its a money loser. I think the problem is blu rays take up space they could use for more popular products, thats why other supermarkets are cutting back. You cant have shelves of stock that no one buys. Blu ray is still too niche a product for supermarkets to stock, shame really.

Geordie"lady"s reliable sources are about as convincing as The Sun newspapers "an insider said".

And as for others being trolls - the words pot and kettle spring to mind. She's the most dislikable person on the forums and thrives on being spiteful as her pure hatred for Adele proves on the music forums.

Where the "lady" part of her name comes from is beyond me.

Why do you continue to troll and write insulting personal posts.
I know you dont like the fact I am right once again but you need to accept it and move on and allow people to have proper discussions about it rather then reading your bitter personal comments your throwing at me.

Which store is your local Morrisons?

Just because your local does not sell them does not mean Morrisons was going to make a 'decision' on selling Blu Rays.

So Geordie"lady" given that several people I this thread have stated their Morrisons IS selling Blu-rays how can that equate to you being right? Can you explain? Because to me it looks like you're actually wrong.

I see from your profile you're a bio-chemist or something - so I presume you're quite intelligent so therefore could explain the difference between right and wrong.
You say Morrisons have stopped selling Blu-ray so you're right, yet posters are saying things to the contrary????

And by the way, a few weeks ago you were ignoring me but now suddenly you can see my posts. Why did you un-ignore?
In need of some attention are we?

People like GL THRIVE on attention. To be honest, the best thing that we can do is to all ignore 'her' posts, trouble is that a few will still 'bite'' so she'll get the response that she's after.

I guess it's time to put 'her' on ignore.

Easier said than done. Other people who see through her often quote her crap so there's no escape really.

My local morrisions up in the north east were still selling them on Monday, have not visted or know anyone who has been there since.

Its clear from other forums many morrisons have now stopped selling blu rays, they were due to make a decison on this back in the spring and we are now seeing the results of this. I dont know if its going to be nationwide or just select stores at this moment in time. My contact who advised me abuot this is in the states so I dont know if this is a nationwide thing or the decision has been left to individual store managers. But whatever, its clear that some stores have completely stopped selling them but this is not really a shock considering its been reported in the national press in the past.
Its a sad state of events but once again proves supermarkets will alway strugle when they stock a niche market product like blu rays.
My guess is tescos will be the next supermarket to stop selling them, in most stores I have visited their selection and stock quantities have reduced dramatically but at the prices they charge people just wont buy them.
Tescos online are ok for blu rays, got some real bargins on there, often for almost half the price amazon are selling them for.

Lol she's back to this old chestnut again
Id love to what all the other things she was right with.
If recall last year and the year before she claimed that there were big changes on its way with Triple Plays and that Single Plays will return as the only option, but all I've seen lately is that Single Plays that are a couple of years old are being discontinued and re-released as Triple Plays.

My Brother spent his shift on Thursday, removing the bargain DVD section and putting in new shelves for a larger Blu Ray section in the Tesco he works in, so maybe it'll be selected stores with that too.

Highly doubtful, many shoppers at my local nearly always seem pick up the odd Blu Ray movie along with their weekly shop.

Oh, so now it's just some stores

Hmmm visiting Tesco stores - one of my favourite pastimes too

People, please wake up to this rubbish!

How I dream of the day I have a "contact" in Morrisons - who just happens to be in the States

People here were saying morrisons wont stop selling blu rays but thats starting to happen, its all about shelf space, tescso have already reduced blu ray shelve space all over the country as many have reported so they could vanish completely as well. Supermarkets have the habit of following each other but only time will tell.

I have 3 tescos near me and not one has reduced Blu Ray shelf space, in fact one has doubled Blu Ray shelf space in the past year.

There will always be exceptions, but tescos reducing blu ray space is not like some kind of secret, its been reported on many forums all over the internet and has happened from john o groats to lands end. But for the time being anyway tescos are still selling them, this thread is about morrisons stopping selling them.

Expansion has also been mentioned on many forums. You're the one that keeps bringing up Tesco. Blu Rays are going to be sold by supermarkets for quite some time.
