Who told you Betamax were coming back? I suppose it was the manager of your local Morissons - they seem to be very free with their information to joe public.

That's funny because I happen to know the directors of both Morrisons and Tesco's, and they both say that whilst blu-ray stock is being reduced, it is in fact to make room for records with movies on. They say that a 90 minute movie will consist of 3 records and you will need to buy the sound track seperately. All in all, they said the average movie watcher will need to spend in the region of £1500 on new equipment to play everything.

Trust me, my sources are good. I would get a more up to date comment, but currently they are visiting a country with no internet or phone service and will be doing so for the next 3 years.

OP - just a guess here, but were you one of the early adopters of HDDVD?

If supermarkets have ceased selling Blu-Rays it may be because demand is too low to justify the stock, and they cannot sell them below a certain price, perhaps because of their suppliers. They are much cheaper online, and if you rummage through the CEX Exchange shops you can get them cheaper, although I do think the Exchange shops are a little overpriced.

I will be much saddened if Blu-rays do not take off and are faded out eventually because of the costs. Perhaps, over a period of time, prices will drop further in order to boost demand.

Blu-ray's are a long way from dying out - if they ever will.
They would have gone by now if they were going to.

Studio's wouldn't be releasing big titles like Indiana Jones boxset, Bond 50, Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, Universal Monsters etc if they were on their way out.

There's no way they'll ever reach the heights of DVD because so many people invested in the massive change from VHS to DVD, but they'll always be a massive market for people who want that extra bit of quality.

….That is unless the wicked evil Morissons get their way

I think the main thing is shelf space, shelf space is critical in supermarkets and if something is not moving stock it cant be warrented. Currently only morrisons have started to stop selling them, for the time beng others still are but we all know how supermarkets act, they do often play "simon says"

My local supermarkets sell very few blu rays.

HMV is the only shop in town with a good selection.
