I have a issue with a 42" LG LCD TV.The screen started to flicker and you could still see the TV, but now all you get is a black screen (sound ok). I switch the tv off at the wall and remove the plug. After about 5 mins I plug the tv back in and switch it on and all is ok. Any idea what the problem could be??

Is it OK now? - or does it still go off after a while?.

There have been major problems with 42 inch LG LCD panels, with capacitors burning up inside them - presumably this starts off with intermittent problems before becoming permanent.

But why only the 42"?
Don't they use similar capacitors in other size TV's?

The LG 42's are the only sets where I've seen the capacitors inside the panel, normally they are on the inverter PCB. I've also never seen the capacitors burn-up before either, and it's not just one, it's all of them to various degrees.

They do fail in some of the cheap portable sets (Beko, Toshiba etc.) - but they are easy to replace (if you can find a source for them).
