Sorry, my mistake.
Key words being "let themselves", not the example you gave or some medical problem, so yeah, your example had nothing to do with it.

On television, even quite small people can appear huge. It can sometimes be just a particular shape or type of face that is somehow hugely magnified.
I'm not saying she's Twiggy, but she is probably not nearly as large she appears. Perhaps she has a small frame?
I've noticed Becky does seem much slimmer on top than over her bum and legs, she seems to be a classic pear shape.

There's no doubt she's overweight and she doesn't seem to have a particularly healthy diet but I think as a nation we now see anything bigger than a size 8-10 as fat, which is quite frankly ridiculous. I worry about some of the stick thin young girls I see on TV as much as I worry about the bigger girls.

Some of the comments on here sadden me, they are so cruel and nasty and I can't stand Becky. Judge people on their behaviour or character but not on the way they look.

jeez.

your nit picking is absurd. I said I walked a mile in someone elses shoes. I realised how it felt to be seen as fat by people in the street with attitudes like yours... whatever the reason behind the weight issue.

Maybe only people who have physical medical issues for their weight will read your post.

Hmm there is an element of her character/ behaviour in this. She has frequently referred to her pride in being overweight, she clearly has no desire to learn anything and glorifies her own hyper-consumptive behaviour (singing to your chicken nuggets???). I think this is what makes her so very unappealing.

Your need to take offence is absurd, especially after you said you don't care.

The girl is fat. She is fat because she eats more calories than she needs. She appears to have made this choice. She doesn't seem particularly bothered about it. Or else she would do something about it. She will, if she carries on like this, suffer from poor health (that is if she doesn't already, though there is no sign of that yet). She was most likely chosen to go on BB because of being fat. Afterwards she can choose to exploit her fatness by selling stories of her misery and yo yo dieting. She can make enough money to reduce her student overdraft. She sure as heck won't be able to sell stories based simply on 'I love being fat. The end.'

I cannot sensibly contribute to the Guess The Weight Of The Fat Girl competition but will have a go. I weigh 60 kilos. She weighs 120.

Student? How can she be a student if she has never heard of Hitler?

Rubbish. The day we accept obese people as the norm in the UK is the day we give up! Just look at America! IT SHOULD be frowned upon!

Oh get over yourself. If you're slim and toned, good for you but don't carry on as if people who don't share your body shape deserve to be vicitimised. You probably think it helps to "shame" people into losing weight. Let me assure youthst that is not the case and never has been.

Fair enough, so long as she is content to suffer potentially terminal diseases from the age of roughly mid thirties on, then fine.....

Yes, fat and gluttonous people should feel ashamed for not knowing the their limits! It is an epidemic today and the NHS is struggling to cope with it.

And if she does she is only harming herself. Nobody else, and i have seen an awful lot of fat old people.
There is quite a bit of research to suggest that it is perhaps the lifestyle that accompanies obesity, such as lack of exercise that causes the problems rather than the weight itself.

Yes they had hoists when I was nursing, not 1 per ward nor 1 per patient.

May be the NHS has improved. I do hope so.

Can you imagine the humiliation though, being admitted to hospital because you are unwell and part of your care programme includes being trussed up like a whale every 2-4 hours because you are too heavy to be manually lifted

Hah! Yes, the street are littered with the bodies of the obese, aren't they? Please, this is nonsense. It's not obesity that's unhealthy per se, it's unhealthy eating. Smoking is a far bigger threat to your body.

NOBODY gets manually lifted nowadays except perhaps an infant. Even lifting skinny people can do your back in, hence for health and safety reasons, manual lifting is not allowed.

But many old people have only GOT fat in old age (this is the case with a large number of older people I know) as their lifestyle become necessarily less energetic (and frequently their ability to afford healthy food declines). And lack of exercise among clinically obese epople is hardly surprising as exercise when carrying an extra 10 stone is significantly more difficult to accomplish - so it becomes a vicious circle.... but yes, she is only harming herself. It seems however that she has made a conscious choice so to do (as her glorification of her bingo wings etc etc demonstrates).....

. No but the funeral homes and hospital beds see a fair few..... Unhealthy eating leads to obesity. Yes smoking is a bigger threat to your body, no one is arguing that, but then there is a serious social stigma to smoking these days.....

The southern states have serious problems with obesity which reflect on the national obesity rate. It's like they are a separate nation in some ways. (politics, religion, food)

Obesity rates by nation USA #1, Mexico #2, UK #3

Perhaps fat people should be rounded up into fenced off areas where they could concentrate on losing weight. We could call them concentration camps.

And yet I don't see anyone on here insulting the smokers for their smoking or suggesting they should be victimised into giving up.
