Hi everyone. I bought a new pair of straighteners on the 13th April this year after my other ones that I had for about 4 years had broken when the swivel cord was moving the on/off light would flicker and the straighteners would cool down while I was still styling my hair!

I bought this new pair and have had them since April 13th as I said and now the same thing is happening again! These are two completely different straighteners!

Would it be worth me returning these ones back to the shop I bought them from? (Argos)

The first pair were from TK Maxx.

I don't have the receipt for the newer pair as I thought they would last a good few years before packing up!

Would they do anything about taking them back do you think
as I have used them for the best part of 3 months?

Any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Is there a number within the straighteners packaging that you can call? Personally I'd bin them and buy a new pair of straighteners thats of a different brand, but then again its cause I only use ghd's .

I got rid of all the packaging when I bought them like the idiot I am! lol.

The ones I have now are Nicky Clarke and the ones I had before were Remington. I thought they were both really good makes but they just don't like me! lol. I will just have to persuade the Other Half to get me a pair of GHDs

I got refurbished ghds, so basically ones that have broken then been fixed on eBay, they were only £40 and came with a 3 month guarantee and I've had mine about 6 months and they're working perfectly still.

Ahh right, I've heard good things about Remington, you can get GHD's cheaper online some places, www.lookfantastic.com is a verified GHD retailer and you can get them a lot cheaper than salon prices

Ooh thank you girls I have always wanted GHDs but they were always sooo expensive! I will definitely be looking on Ebay and the link that I have been given to find some.

Sorry to go OT, but I have a straightening question.

I am male and I have short hair. Whenever I straighten my hair it stands up a lot and I just want it to lie flat on my head! Any techniques for straightening that would stop this? I try to straighten sideways, i.e from left to right pressing it down.

I'm on my third set of GHDs now and when these go (which I know they will) I won't be getting anymore. They're overrated and definitely over priced. My hairdresser uses Cloud Nine straighteners which I think are brill and if I hadn't of been bought this new set of GHDs as a gift, I would have definitely gone for the Cloud Nine ones.

Cloud Nine are GHD's, but better, from what I've heard. It's the same man who used to own GHD, CN is his new company

I got some Toni&Guy ones when my GHD's gave up, £20 from TK maxx and theyre lovely!

Cloud Nine are excellent, I gave in a few months ago and bought a pair. It gives effortless sleek, smooth shiny results in just one pass. What I like about these is that it has heat control which the GHD don't have which was why I could never buy those.

The are not cheap though. The RRP is £129, you can get it slightly cheaper if you shop around. I am very worried about buying fakes though so I bought mine directly from the company; I paid a bit less at the time as they had a sale on.

If you have GHD money for a straightener I would seriously consider buying the CN.

Do Cloud 9 do wide plate ones? That's the best thing about my GHD's, they're specifically for thick curly hair and have extra wide plates. "Normal" sized ones are useless for me, takes twice as long to straighten my mop.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that people expect their straighteners to break after a few years' use? I have a Remington hair dryer I was bought for my 18th birthday - I am now 27 and it's still going. I've had the same hair straighteners since I was 21 (Andrew Collinge). Neither were very expensive (about £25 each) and they just keep going. Yet I hear about people buying £100+ straighteners and replacing them in a year or two... You'd think the cheaper ones would be the first to pack in!

Yeah they have three sizes, wide, medium and micro.

Use mini straighteners they are perfect for short hair and fringe and use horizontal motion as oppose to upwards motion as that way your hair will stick up! lol Also when the hair is still hot after straightening each section hold it down with the palm of your hand so it cools flat and won't stick up as much.

GHD are good
my mum got me and my sisters the normal sized one and big one
my hair naturally curly so the big ones good to use for that type of hair
and the normal sized one are also good to use for the shorter bits of your hair or if you hair is wavy/a bit straight

Can't beat ghd! Ive been using then for 9 years. I've got very long, wavy thick hair and nothing else works. My friend has some cloud nines, I gave them a go and they didn't work as well as ghd for me.
