A few seasons back they did alternate between Bradford and Huddersfield games but reverted to just Bradford.

I understand why they don't focus on Huddersfield as they are Radio Leeds' main commentary on FM. Bradford are covered by the RL but mostly on AM/DAB.

As the Pulse are based in Bradford sure it makes sense to send the team over the road to the stadium and provide commentary on away games.

If the Leeds takeover eventually happens can see Yorkshire Radio being no more as it is a loss maker and the BBC picking up the commentary again.

I think that was only due to the situation regarding Bradford City refusing to allow commentary on home matches to be broadcast on local radio stations. It's only because of Leeds United's refusal to let Radio Leeds broadcast Leeds United matches that all Huddersfield Town matches are broadcast on Radio Leeds FM.


When they resumed broadcasting commentary on Bradford City matches, commentary on Huddersfield Town matches was already available on 107.9 FM. That's why I think the Pulse didn't decide to get rights to all Huddersfield Town matches. Radio Leeds had already moved Huddersfield Town matches to FM by the time they were no longer broadcast on 107.9 FM, so the Pulse never had an opportunity to be the only station that could broadcast FM commentary on Huddersfield Town matches.


So can I. If they do, the frequency splits will be as they were prior to Yorkshire Radio having exclusive commentary rights, so that would be the time for the Pulse to consider broadcasting Huddersfield Town matches.

Though I'd like Huddersfield Town matches to be available on the Pulse, I object more strongly to the bigger and better claim because the 1996-97 season was the biggest and best season for Pulse Sport.

I wonder how they will provide the new live text service? I think commentating verbally and textually at the same time would be challenging, and wonder if they'll just use the same text commentary service the BBC uses?

Alan Gowling will be doing only a few commentaries this season for the station on Bolton games. They'll use a variety of people inc Phil Brown.

Alan now has other commitments but I do wonder whether Championship football put him off or the criticism he gave to the club.

It also appears that Bolton will still be above Wigan in the commentary stakes

I think that is the right decision. Even though Wigan are in a higher division, I think more Radio Manchester listeners will be Bolton fans than Wigan fans.

Juliet's line for the N Ireland game sounded pretty ropey and, forFinland's equalizer they didn't cross to her for a report. not sure if there were some technical issues.
Darren Fletcher mentioned that John Murray would be commentating on WBA v Liverpool on Saturday at 3 PM-- no big surprise as he was always the Saturday commentator unless otherwise engaged on gold last season. I'll be moving to Buckinghamshire on Saturday so won't be able to help with any commentary info I'm afraid.

re bolton being above Wigan on commentary for radio Manchester, I agree with you it is the right call. don't forget also that all Wigan games are covered on Wish FM and I don't think Bolton have any other radio partners.

Tower FM, one of Wish FM's fellow UTV Radio-owned local stations, does live commentary on every Bolton Wanderers game, so they receive exactly the same level of local commercial radio coverage as Wigan Athletic does.

Another UTV Radio station mentioned on here earlier in the week was Peak FM, with wns_195 wondering whether they were continuing their coverage of Chesterfield. Well, although Peak FM didn't do commentary the Spireites' League Cup game in midweek, they will be covering their game at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. Peak FM commentator Rob Daly has tweeted that he'll be at the game for the station.

To move onto another bit of tenuously linked sports radio news, one of Daly's commentary colleagues at the Perform Group's online Watch&Bet service Tim Long has confirmed he'll be one of the commentators heard on talkSPORT Live this season, with him tweeting a picture of one of the booths at their new studio.

Good news for Walsall fans, over the past four or five years we've been lucky if we'd heard WM broadcasting a single commentary on competitive Saddlers match over the course of a whole season, so this is a considerable increase in the amount of live games BBC WM will broadcast. Hopefully all/most "standalone" Walsall fixtures (when the Saddlers are playing at times when none of WM's other four league clubs are) will be covered live this season. Well done to both the club and the station, fingers crossed that this will see a noticeable improvement in the club's radio coverage.

In the Republic of Ireland, Today FM have selected West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool as their first Premier League commentary of the season tomorrow at 3pm. Ron Jones and Matt Holland will be commentating with the usual team of Michael McMullan and Mark Lawrenson fronting Premier League Live.

Thanks for posting that link. To clarify, the article states that Keith Hall is going to commentate for the talkSPORT Live international service as opposed to joining the main station's reporting team.

I'm a little surprised that someone would give up regular on-site commentary work for an off-tube position but then as Keith says talkSPORT Live does provide a great opportunity to get your voice out there and broadcast to an international audience. However it's noticeable that the article's intro states that Keith will be "missing from Hereford United's weekend matches", indicating that he may still pop up on BBC Hereford & Worcester as a commentator on the Bulls' midweek games.
