Brilliant band - my sis was hooked since the beginning. I've seen them live a couple of times - BRILLIANT! 80s and early 90s were epic.

Hey guys
Love Duran Duran too. My sis has been a massive fan forever. Have you been to their website? John Taylor is doing a book signing tour. Check it out.

They're definitely worth seeing live.

Not surprised that somebody has already mentioned 'The Chauffeur' as a favourite track. People talk about the 'Girls on Film' video for good reason and though not quite as blatant, the video filmed for 'The Chauffeur' is a bit steamy too. A brilliant track from an iconic album.

My other favourite Duran tracks are:

My Own Way (the single mix)

Skin Trade (in my opinion this is one of their most underrated songs. I saw them do this live and was instantly converted).

Hungry Like The Wolf

Planet Earth

Rio

The Reflex

A View to A Kill
===============================================
Quite liked the song they had out last year called 'All You Need is Now' too.

I LOVE the single version of My Own Way. I never liked the album version - it seems too slow

I love Duran Duran. I was so glad I got to see the original line-up (including Andy Taylor) in Manchester back in 2004. They were absolutely brilliant live. The Chauffeur is one of my favourite songs.... they've got so many good songs.

DD's album tracks were epic too. Some really dark and moody stuff. As mentioned, The Chauffeur, and also New Religion, Anyone Out There, Shadows on your Side, Winter Marches On - all worth checking out. Plus the recent album All You Need Is Now absolutely kicks ass.

I had to buy the 1981-1985 singles CD boxset to get 'My Own Way' (single version) on CD. Apparently the band don't like the song, which might explain why it didn't get included on either 'Decade' or 'The Greatest.'

The album version (which I believe was recorded later) is too slow in my opinion too. I know some people like it (and prefer it) but I never bother with it when I listen to 'Rio.' The single mix just has some kick to it and I love the strings too.

If you don't own it, it's really worth treating yourself to the collector's edition of 'Rio'. Not only do you get 4 mixes of 'My Own Way' (including the brilliant single and night mixes), it's an interesting opportunity to hear the US album versions of 'Hungry like the Wolf' and 'Rio' amongst others, which were remixed for the North American market.

The Deluxe of Rio is excellent, but I'd be careful with the other releases, Notorious & Seven & The ragged Tiger has god awful remastering.........

Me too!!
I also bought the BBC in concert 1981 album to get the live version

I had heard they didn't like the song which is a shame because it's the one song I'd like to hear them perform at a show.
Although saying that, I remember a few years ago seeing a clip on youtube of them perfoming it as part of a medley so maybe they've recently had a change of heart.

I agree, I love their new album. It was such an improvement over Red Carpet Massacre (the less we say about that one the better )
Talking of epic songs - The Man who Stole a Leopard (ft Kelis) is up there as one of my favourite DD songs.

I loved DD back in the 80s' and bought every single, album, tape and 12 inch song/records they released.
I was so happy when they reformed but I was very disappointed in their comeback. I followed them on their website and came to the conclusion that they really don't give a crap about their fans and favour the us dollar.
My favourite was always Roger Taylor, he was gorgeous, quiet and just beautiful to me but since they came back, he comes across to me as a man going through a mid life crisis and a slimey one at that. He actually makes my flesh crawl these days.
I still love DD the way they were but I'm not impressed by them these days. I don't blame Andy for leaving them again.

I like Duran Duran, but I have to say I wasn't that impressed by All You Need is Now as everyone else was. I tried to get into it but it really did nothing for me. I actually love Red Carpet Massacre. I think it was very underrated. For me, All You need is Now was a contrived effort to try to recapture their 80's sound but without the compelling songs and hooks of their older music. I like it when older artists move forward and try new things like on Red Carpet Massacre. I don't like it when they try to pretend it's still 1983. I know that their hard core fans rejected RCM, but for me as a casual fan who also likes modern pop music I thought it was great and showed growth.

agreed, All You Need Is Now wasn't Duran recapturing their sound, it was Duran copying themselves

I definitely see where you're coming from.

To me though AYNIN doesn't sound like it belongs in the 80s. It sounds quite modern to me

I was really looking forward to RCM when it came out because I liked some of Timbaland's productions (particularly some of Nelly Furtado's songs). I used to be a member of a DD message board and at times I felt like the only one who was looking forward to the album LOL

But in the end it kind of sounded like a Simon Le Bon solo record to me. There were some tracks where I wasn't even sure Roger or John were even on them.

I don't completely dislike it though, the first three tracks (The Valley, RCM, Nite Runner) go really well together and Box Full O Honey is a beautiful song, but I was really disappointed with Falling Down - a track DD admitted they tried to turn into another Ordinary World. I just don't think it works and Falling Down is my least favourite DD track. To me, it kind of sounds like a BSB b-side The end half of the album I just don't listen to at all now.

I haven't heard any news on whether they're making another album. Has there been any mention of it?

All DD did with All You Need Is Now is reclaim their sound that has been back in vogue over the last few years through The Killers, The Bravery, Reverend and the Makers, etc.
Wasn't a fan at all of Red Carpet Massacre - if you believe Andy's autobiog, it was a record company driven decision.
