New Music Venue - Opinions Needed!
Hi, just wondering what the opinion is about a new live music venue starting in the UK, with local talent throughout the week and bigger headline acts at the weekends, how does this sound to people?
Also, where would you prefer the location to be if you like the idea? I'm open to any other feedback as well, cheers! |

I've looked into doing this too, glad someone else is doing it because I can't afford to!
I'd say you need it in a central location in one of the 8 hub cities of the UK. One thing to worry about is people paying; I know for one I wouldn't be willing to spend money on 'local' talent if I could see someone of the same calibre in a pub. If I were you I would look into making the local gigs free, but offer refreshments (alcoholic if possible) at a slightly inflated price; at least that way you can make the money back from the loss of ticket sales. Then have the headliners once a week / fortnight, charge a fee but then have the drinks at an 'original' price. They should bring more people in and if they're good enough acts then you'll have no problem selling the tickets. Also, you could have 'members' of the venue who get discounts on drinks / entry so at least then you will have a constant and loyal fanbase. One other way to do it is to open a few small venues in smaller cities (this may be cheaper and more beneficial) and gradually build up the brand and the reputation; then you should be able to get better acts and more loyal customers. That's what I'd do anyway

Thanks for the advice, I like the idea of making the local gigs free, I suppose even somebody on a night out walking past might come in, buy a couple of drinks and walk out again (or maybe stay in if they like it)!
I hadn't thought of a membership system, although it makes sense to do it even if it just provides a mailing list. Thanks again for the advice! |
