What foreign celebrities should realistically do the show?

We had Michelle Williams in 2010 and she was a hoot. We've also seen Martina Hingis, Holly Valance, etc.

Who would be good enough to connect with the audience despite being from another country?

Anastacia proved popular at The X Factor and is currently in the Skoda advert over here. Male tennis players would probably get the housewife vote, for example Boris Becker and Andrei Agassi.

Love the Anastacia Skoda advert

Best bet would be an American or a sportsman, i.e the two markets who feature heavily over here. Looking at the Olympians, maybe someone who wins gold from another country and steals the headlines?

He did Top Gear, so you never know. But you never know, could be a diver or a badminton player, someone who partners a brit in something where you can have doubles, maybe someone from Ireland if they do well?

As awesome as it'd be, he's shot it down pretty quickly!

Fair enough Pat Cash doesn't want to do it and doesn't like the show but he didn't have to be so snidey about people who do chose to do it and people who like watching the show Even Noel Gallagher showed more tact than him!

Boris Becker or perhaps John MacEnroe would be good.

During Wimbledon last week Andrew Castle was talking with Lyndsey Davenport about his stint on Strictly and he mentioned that Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles did DWTS and she was quite eager to change the subject. Perhaps she would do it.

Trouble is - over here "foreign" celebs historically don't do well - Martina was first out (due to a bizarre bit of judging when the judges chose to send her home when she was bottom 2 when Rav Wilding was a lot worse than her...), and Michelle Williams was the least known member of Destiny's Child - the one everybody forgets when trying to remember the girls' names so probably didn't have a huge fanbase. Michelle probably only got as far as she did because of Brendan's popularity....

Holly and Jason last year live and work over here now, and are both well known from their Neighbours days so already had fanbases, but unless they are with a popular pro, (i know that didn't apply to Martina H) or really well known here, they don't stand much chance.. The most popular foreigner in recent times was probably Vanilla Ice doing DOI last year

Foreigners tend to do better on DWTS - Jane Seymour did well for an older lady and
Mel B and Katherine Jenkins were runners up

Eric Cantona would be a grt character

Alice Copper (and apparently he's a dance fan as well)

Mmmm, yes please, but let's face it, he'd walk it! Not only is he beautiful, he's Latin & a musician. He'd be a shoe-in, just like Jennifer Grey was on DWTS.

A few who could realistically do it...

Ruby Wax- British based but American born- would be a hoot, I think!

Dennis Bergkamp- Dutch footballer who had his Golden Years in the UK. Reminds me of Peter Schmeichal!

Carmen Electra- US born Baywatch actress- career seems to be more Europe based now.

Stefan Dennis- Australian soap star and former pop singer- would be good for nostalgia value.

Jean Christophe Novelli- French chef who would be a hit for sure with housewives the country over!

Whigfield- Danish singer who was rumoured last year- bit of an off-beat choice but would be interesting!

I wouldn't mind seeing Henry Winkler doing it - he does a lot of work in Britian. He's entertaining and has a really charming air about him. He also seems a proper fan of the show & brings nostalgia to those of us who used to watch 'Happy Days' I know he's in his mature years but I think he'd be great fun. I wonder if he's ever been asked to do SCD or DWTS.

Some interesting suggestions on this thread - as long as the foreign celebs are known over here then I don't mind them doing Strictly!

Henry Winkler was offered DWTS but turned it down because he wouldn't want a bad run on it himself to temper his incredibly positive view of the show. Another celeb who loves watching it, but wouldn't want to compete themselves.

I would love Jim Parsons-Sheldon from Big Bang Theory
He is musical, he takes work seriously and he is gracefull
Not sure how well known he is though

He would be great. He was doing commentary on R5 yesterday and was so funny (intentionally, I think ). 'Tis a pity tennis players are such terrible dancers though.....

Ah that's a pity although understandable! Thanks for the info though. I think getting knocked out early would be my biggest fear if I was a celeb too amongst many other things like making a fool of myself

Perhaps a producer could twist his arm and persuade him to do a one off Christmas or charity special over here since those shows are more for fun than competition and they don't involve public phone voting ........I'd love to see him paired with Flavia

Tom Cruise. He's clearly a bundle of laughs.

Lyndsey Davenport is very very tall and I dont think she would be graceful. If I was a tennis player I wouldnt come within 100 miles of strictly as none of them have done well at all.....mind you probably because they have chosen ones that have zero personality. I would adore John Mcenroe to do it. I actually asked him a couple of years ago if he would consider SCD or DWTS and he nearly died laughing saying that the world was not ready to see him in lycra.

On the tennis front I actually could see Boris Becker being talked into it if they wanted him.
