Hi Guys

Thanks for the kind words. I'm amazed that such a small thing could meow loud enough that we could hear him from 50 yards away. Even though he was blind he still managed to find his way under the same car for two nights running, he seems to be a very clever kitten. He is very aware of his surroundings as he's settled in nicely in my brother's room and as I mentioned last night, he's purring and playing so he seems very happy.

As I left this morning he was sound asleep but he did have some more chicken last night and also did a poo so everything seems to be okay at the moment.

I'm hoping little Xavi will bring us years of joy - we've not had the best of luck with cats.

I am sure he will, I assume he will be an indoor cat due to his sight but as long as he has toys and love which I am sure he will from the evidence we see here so far then I am sure he will be one happy little man.

And dont forget to give us some pics.

Yes - we'll probably keep him as an indoor cat, we don't live on a busy road but still would be worried that he'd run out onto the road.

Regards to pics - I don't know how to attach them, if somebody could let me know then I'll try and get some for you.

The eyes must have been severely ulcerated for the vet to not even try to save the kitten's sight!! Did he not even suggest antibiotics to treat the infection first?

I take it he's on antibiotics now? If not, I would seriously consider changing your vet!!

Poor little thing.

If an ulcer gets into an animal's eye it's a medical emergency. It only takes a matter of days for the ulcer to deepen and the fluid from the eye to leak out in which case it can't be saved. My dog only had an ulcer for 2 days (which she spent being treated at the vets) before they had to operate quickly to stitch it shut to try to save it.

Anyway so happy to hear your story OP, if only more people were like you.

There are a few free programems such as Tinypic, Photobucket and Imageshack ( I am sure others might know better than me ) you save the pic to your PC and then upload it to your account on whichever image programme you decide to use and post the link to that photo in a post here.

Hi

The vet's prognosis was that the kitten had not been able to see for at least two weeks, his eyes were that badly infected. We've been with the vets for 2 years now and they have always been brilliant, so I trust his judgment.

He's on painkiller at the moment - for all he's been through he is very bright and seems very healthy as he's eating, peeing and pooing regularly. I just hope he stays healthy.

Poor little kitten. Just want to add my admiration and respect for what you've done. I think, as the poor little thing is still so young and has not been able to see for some weeks, he should be able to adjust quite well to his blind state. He probably can't even remember being able to see. It's going to be challenging looking after a blind kitten and providing a safe but stimulating environment. I wish you luck and look forward to regular updates on his progress.

Poor little thing I'm sure you're going to give the kitten a great quality of life now though, you've done a really nice thing I wish more were like you.

Thank you - its a team effort, my mum and brothers have helped out also. I think it may be the case that he hasn't seen for a while. We've just fed him and I was just playing with him and he was purring, he seems very affectionate. I've taken some pics and will upload soon. Will hopefully keep you updated for years.

What a wondeful bunch of people you and your family sound Taz. You remind me of this story

Quote:
A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,

“Well, I made a difference to that one!”

You might want to read this, Taz. I got it for my mother and she loved it. And it isn't sad at the end.
