Would something like this potentially work for those of us who'd rather not use powerline adaptors?

Interesting, though as YouView is meant to be mass market I'm putting my non-techy head on and comparing the YouView offering to the plug-and-play functionality offered by devices like Apple TV and finding it wanting.

This article and this one does not leave much to the imagination, not much left to hide I would guess for the triallists

WOW I'm really impressed with the Youview user interface , one question are we likely to see the likes of Lovefilm , Netflix etc on it , I believe Sky's Now TV has announced it will arrive on Youview.

Yes there is a Guardian story confirming Now TV will be joining Youview as a 'portal' which is ironic considering how hard Sky tried to kill Youview off.

It will do according to Phil Walder of Connected TV which runs a lot of these channels “YouView is good for us, as anything that increases the number of HD Freeview boxes in UK homes increases the number of people able to access our services.”

I am concerned that the only iptv services available on launch are catch up.

Obvioulsy we don't know what the triallists have access to, but if they don't currently have access to Netflix / Lovefilm / Now TV how confident can a purchaser be that these IPTV services will work reliably on the launch equipment later on?

When Now TV is added as an IPTV feed will it be able to be recorded on the HDD or is it just available as a live service?

I'll certainly be holding off buying until I know more on what my £300 is actually getting?

I would buy just for the catch up services on this box. Am I sad?

But don't you series record the programs you actually want to watch. We have a Humax HDR satelliet PVR, it has iplayer and itvplayer but we only really use them if someone forgot (or cancelled grrr) the series record.

Its pay per movie, pay per footie match content that would be the real sell and in the video on youtube they said thats not there, at least initially.

If it had launched a year ago or so then the IPTV/online market would have been less developed than now, e.g. Netflix, LoveFilm, internet TVs, etc. That said, I still wish Youview well because it does allow access to more free content plus some optional pay content as well.

The only downside is the initial price tag! (although it will go down with time)

This might be true at some future point, but right now, according to the Youview own marketing video it doesn't offer ANY "optional pay content". Both BT and Talk Talk want people to sign up to their service, if you don't then all you seem to get is catchup tv - iplayer etc.

Like I said above true pay per movie, pay per soccer match is what people clammer for and Youview isn't going to provide it (initially at least).

It does as the boxes are Freeview HD+ so have these services, according to the company that runs these services.

My understanding is that any Freeview HD kit that came to market since 1st April 2011,should get the IPTV services between channels 110/117.

Maybe one of those lucky people who have got a YouView Humax can tell us

I don't have one, but looking at the pictures on-line I can't see a Freeview HD logo on the box - is it on the top? (There are some logos on the top, but I can't read them on the photos I've seen on-line).

The UI says YouView, not Freeview.

My point is: does it actually say Freeview HD+ anywhere?

I realise the trialists can't say anything, but plenty of people must have seen it in-the-flesh at the launch, and there may be other photos I've missed.

Cheers,
David.

Would think that makes no difference,it's still a Freeview PVR.

Taken from Google,

''6 Sep 2011 – "From 1 April 2011, all new Freeview HD receiver products must include MHEG Interaction Channel (MHEG-IC) as part of D-Book 6.2.1.[70] ''

Can anybody say if this device did get an update which was suggested would happen this week?

Anyone moving from a Topfield box with MyStuff to this Youview box is going to be very disappointed with the current state of its UI. Looking at those images we have seen online, it looks like that UI needs much work and improvement. MyStuff is the yard stick they must follow.

Can't speak for ftsemonks but I'm always missing good TV programmes that I read about on the News, forums or somewhere, mainly because I rarely check the schedules so by the time I hear about them, it's often too late. Not much of what I watch is via series record.

I will be great to scroll through the EPG catch up schedules on my TV, all 'free' catch up channels together, and if unsure dip in to see if it looks good or not. And if it looks good, to record it (assuming that's going to be possible) or watch it then or later, and set series links etc. for future episodes as necessary.

If all that can be done, it will be perfect, just what I've been waiting for. I find browsing through a myriad of different catch-up websites and schedules to be too much trouble, and even when I find a programme worth watching, I find watching it on a computer screen to be somewhat unsatisfying.

Same here that is why I got the TiVo boxes
