Raydons media server keep losing laptop network connection

Hi
I have been using the excellent media server by Raydon for sometime. but i only use it occasionaly.
each time ( could be weeks apart) i cant access the hdr by the shortcut on my desktop or by typing in the ip address.
I re load the media bundle and all is well.
Then i lose it again.
it seems to me that hdr is updating itself or similar and wiping Raydons stuff.

Anyone else expeienced this? or have any ideas what it is and how to cure it

many thanks in advance

Two possible reasons spring to mind.

1The Foxsat is set to DHCP so the IP address is changed due to your router issuing a different address. Check the IP address that your box reports in the menus. - Solution use a fixed ip address outside the pool of addresses your router is set to allow.

1 Mongoose has crashed (an occasional problem). in this case a reboot of the foxsat will restore comms or if you have telnet installed then open a cmd window

telnet ipaddress

service start mongoose.

When you are able to access the web interface the settings page does report version 4.0.7?

Graham,

the hdr is set to manual ip address ( 192.168.1.7) there are only 4 other devices on the network

when i start up the box the humax splash screen says U7.54

regarding the link you showed, the DHCP range is from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254

I am going to reboot and reload the bundle now and see what happens

U7.54 is only the loader. the Humax firmware version will be 1.00.20 and the bundle should be 4.0.7. (shown on the webif settings page)

I think Repassac has hit on the answer. When you boot the box does it say Custom Fw 4.0.7 on the front display. If not you most likely haven't got the version for the latest 1.0.20 firmware.

If this is so - then after flashing the firmware there are updates you need to apply - go to package management - update from internet and apply all updates.

This release includes setting the Foxsat clock and several flags to indicate the type of boot which daily processes examine to determine if they should run or not.

What I recommend is making an address reservation on the router - doing this you will always get the same address, have up to date name servers and no address conflicts. If you have a number of hosts plus guests then a quick look at the DHCP settings tells you all - trying to remember how you manually set up fixed addresses two years back is a pain.

This is normally in advanced lan settings and usually termed 'Address Reservation' - here you assocate an ip with a mac address - if you select add normally the mac addresses are prompted. The HDR does not show a host name.

Yes sounds exactly correct. addresses commencing with DC-D3-21 are allocated to Humax (along with 00-03-78).

seems to be working fine now!

on a tagent though. my wife and i have win7 and we can access the hdr via the network fine

My sons laptop (running xp) however cant accessthe HDR on the network no matter what i try, he also cant access our networked printer (which we can) so i am guessing that the problem is a network issue with xp

Well it helps to set all the PC's and the HDR in the same workgroup (The foxsat defaults to "Workgroup", see the WebIf settings page).. I assume the laptop aquires it's ip via DHCP on the local network?

Open a command window and type ping xx.xx.xx.xx (substitute your IP address). Do you get a response ?

Did you install telnet from the package list ?

You must download and use the latest 4.0.7 version. Get rid of the old version you are using.

Note the important note.
