Bush B10FSRH16 Freesat+ HD Recorder Problem

Just purchased the above freesat recorder for the bedroom, from eBay - sold as manufacturer refurbished.

Done a first time install but it only finds a signal on tuner 1 - tuner 2 shows 0% strength & quality.

Swapped leads around and still only shows tuner 1, so the satellite leads are both ok

Is there a fix via a 'hidden menu' (as per Humax) where you can check if tuner 2 is ok and active, or do I need to return the box as faulty?

Any help appreciated

Hi Alsatian, Do you have 2 cables coming from your satellite dish? If you only have 1 cable coming from your dish another is needed to be able to use the Bush box's recording facility. 2 feeds from the dish are needed for each tuner within the Receiver. Was it Argos outlet on e-bay you bought it from "re-furbished"? Argos are the main people behind Bush hardware, i believe your box was probably made in Turkey by Vestel, anyway only 1 tuner working doesn't seem too good, did you have a previous Freesat+ Recording set-up and was it working ok? If your previous set up with Freesat was fine I would be looking for a refund on the Bush from the seller.

I would take it back as fast as you can. I would avoid this brand (and the cheap end of the market) - nothing but problems.

I would second that.Go for a Humax Foxsat HDR or an Echostar HDS600-RS if they are within budget.Good luck

I've already got a Humax downstairs - just wanted a 'cheap' one for the 2nd tv in the bedroom.

I thought/hoped by this time that Bush/Grundig/Harvard/Argos had got their act together and produced a reasonable quality product!

I had an installer come today to swap the single feed into the bedroom to a twin feed, previously I used an old PACE Sky digibox and DVD recorder.

I have tested both the satellite feeds and both are ok, so am certain that it's a fault with the box.

As it's for the bedroom I am unable to justify spending £150+ on a new (better) model.

The eBay seller is collecting this unit and, after testing, will send me a replacement.

Can understand your frustration, many times in supermarkets i've passed the "bargain shelf" and been tempted by certain "brand" Receivers but the missus has bent my ear! Maybe she knows more than she lets on? If you can live with Freeview for 2nd tv try the Technika STBHDIS2010 for around £20 on Tesco Outlet on E-bay, HD and cracking upscaled picture quality or if its satellite you really need what about the Manhattan Plaza receiver? Both have positive reviews although neither can record.

Nice thought but because of where I live I only get 16 digital channels on Freeview!!

You must be on a Freesat "relay transmitter", my town is also on one, which would also give me "Freeview Lite" I have my aerial pointed to a different Transmitter approx 40-50 miles away, I use a signal booster and can get every channel, HD ones too on the Technika STBHDIS2010. Worth thinking about? Signal boosters can be had for around a Tenner. Or check out Tesco website where they offer a Manhattan Plaza FREESAT receiver, dish and installation for £90. Bargain

UPDATE!:
1. Sagemcom freesat recorder number one returned to Currys, as the cooling fan came on randomly - and at times stayed on for 2 hours!! (Not good at night in a bedroom! ).

2. Sagemcom freesat recorder number two returned to Currys, as the picture would dissappear, box locked up when using P+/P- buttons on front of box, when switching on 'No Service Available' on screen!! All of these problems seem to be quite common according to various websites. This time got a refund

3. Thought about Samsung (c£50 dearer) but looking at various websites they seem to have the same problems as Sagemcom

4. Only other option is Humax, but can't justify the cost as it's only for the bedroom.

5. Daughter gave me her old Hitachi HDR253 Freeview Recorder - set it up and works fine (although limited number of channels due to being on Brockwell relay transmitter). Got round this by connecting my old Sky Pace box up as well - can now record 2 channels (Freeview) and watch a 3rd (Freesat)!!

Alls well that ends well, and thanks for all your replies!

Hi Alsatian, you seem to have found an ideal solution for your circumstances, and with no great financial outlay, brilliant stuff. There is a site for any problems which may occur (hopefully not!) with the Hitachi- www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk (I think the Hitachi is made by Vestel in Turkey, I may be wrong but if so the aforementioned site is a great resource) All the best
