Radio 2 today
How have others found R2 today with Ryan Tubridy covering breakfast and Richard Allinson on drive?
I can't stand Chris Evans so usually avoid R2 breakfast like the plague, but I'm really enjoying Ryan Tubridy - the only thing they should scrap is that waste of space Fiona Phillips turning up to talk about the 'sleb gossip in the tabloids. As for Allinson on drive - that was a nice surprise. I find Simon Mayo really bland and always sounds so smug. Now if only the line up of today could made permanent - I'd go back to listening to R2 like a shot. |

I've no idea if anyone else has ever noticed it or mentioned it somewhere but I've always thought he sounds identical on the radio, voice, delivery and style, to former Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies. The pair are so very similar. |

I have given up listening to daytime Radio 2. I used to like Chris Evans on Drivetime, but can't take too much of him at Breakfast. I find Simon Mayo irritating.
Radio 2 tends to be better evenings and weekends. I had a listen to Made on Sunday (11AM) & found it quite listenable. The Sunday Brunch slot had become a no no for me when the awful Wogan was on. Paul O'Grady is OK, & Tim Rices' American Pie is one of the best things on Radio 2 at present. |

Evans is about the only thing I listen to on R2 now. Bruce and Wright are just painful to listen to, both well past their sell by dates. Radcliffe and Maconie in the evening was a must listen before they went.

I don't mind Wright too much, but find Ken Bruce irritating. His wildly fluctuating voice & mannerisms I find very irritating. I like "Popmaster" but can't take his show other than that. It is better when Zoe Ball is there instead

R2 has been "dead" to me for a couple of years and has driven me back to commercial / R4.
Evans was the final nail in the coffin but Mayo (who I could never "stick" in his R1 days) was never going to work for me. Vine should never have got anyway near the lunch slot. Bruce isn't my cup of tea (but I don't tend to catch that slot anyway). Steve Wright's "lost it". A daytime line-up that might bring me back (which I know won't go down well with most here) could be: Mick Brown (b'fast), followed by Tarrant, Kirsty Young or Mathew Bannister, Lyn Parsons, Allinson (drive). |

Hi! All
On the subject of Simon Mayo and he presented a very popular breakfast show on Radio 1 but the thing with drivetime on Radio 2 is that he comes across as when he talks to callers as if he is speaking to a child which is just not right for a drivetime show, I can not understand why he has not been tried out sitting in for Chris Evans but I guess that what with having been popular on Radio 1's breakfast show the Radio 2 bosses can not risk him sitting in for Chris. I know that when he got drivetime on Radio 2 there were those such as myself wondering if he would sit in for Chris but that has not come about. |

I still miss Johnnie Walker's Drivetime. After a cack day at work, in the car, 5.05pm "Turn your radio up". Brilliant!

I enjoy the normal daytime on R2 with Evans/Bruce/Vine/Wright and Mayo. Though I have to say, it's a shame that the likes of Allinson especially are not given a prime time slot (though not sure there) as I enjoy Allinson. I (un)fortunately work at 4:30am on a Saturday so have him on in the morning whilst getting ready, and really enjoy it.
It's been nice having Tubridy on in the morning, better than Madeley in my opinion. Though I have to say I prefer Evans. (And Wogan of course :P) Nice to hear Allinson on last night too

No one here has mentioned Janice Long, stuck away out of sight after midnight. Surely she ought to have a daytime show at some point, as she is always friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable with warmth.
Anyone who would want the charmless sounding Matthew Bannister on air must be his mate, I'd rather have DLT instead on that one! Is it not a bit surprising that Radio 2 is so overwhelmingly male during the day? The talent is there so use it. |

I haven't listened to R2 for ages now. Since Wogan left Breakfast, it's been harder for me to start with R2 with Evans as he's simply too brash in the mornings, which then jars against Ken Bruce.
Ironically, the easiest breakfast show for me to listen to is Gold's More Music show with Paul Coyte, although I'll very occasionally listen to Simon Bates's Golden Hour on Smooth which is easily the best 60 mins a day of the output on that station. |

WRT Mathew Bannister for the lunchtime slot, I would've preferred Brian Hayes but I don't think he's available / up to it now. He had the authority (voice) required to carry-off the current affairs agenda, (although I gather this has been somewhat watered-down since Vine got the gig) as I beleive, does Bannister, (despite his blood on the carpet days) who also of course has a background in news journalism (not that Vine hasn't - I just don't think he "works" on the radio). |

I think she must be comfortable in her time slot as no one would work nights permanently if they did not like it. Someone younger might think it would give them a chance of the daytime programmes but I don't think she does it for that reason. |

Chris Evans is great, always cheers me up
Ken Bruce is alight but much better when Zoe covers Vine is bit OTT but sometimes interesting Steve Wright is well past it, and his show is to scripted (Tony Blackburn would be much better? I get home at 5 so don't listen to Mayo often, but he seems pretty good. |

If I'd known Richard Allinson was on drive I would have listened.
I have always loved his style and the music he plays and Simon Mayo's is the only daytime Radio 2 show I find I can't listen to, though I don't listen to breakfast because I am not up in time. |

I have a prejudice against Mathew Bannister as I recall how he was brought in to destroy the old BBC Radio London which was a good station in its day.
Bannister & his rediculous side kick demolished what was a pretty good radio station. |

I can't stand the way Steve Wright tries to speak like an American, it's so false and annoying
![]() Long past his sell-by date... apart from that I like daytime Radio 2
