Day Of The Daleks
Thirty plus years before Blink we had some serious Timey Wimey adventuring with this story. It is a rare beast in Doctor Who for a story to be centred around Time itself but somehow the show managed to pack two into this Season.
Spoiler
Away from the time aspect the Dalek's return after five years is a bit of a let down. There is no explanation as to how they survived the Civil War from The Evil Of The Daleks, they don't sound the same and it's really obvious, especially in the last episode, that there was only three of them. Jo looks really hot in this, I love the RHIP scene between Yates and Benton and Jon Pertwee is on top form in this, though I think he stated this as one of the worst that he done. All in all, it's a bit of a mixed bag. Not good, but not bad either, it's just a run-of-the-mill Pertwee adventure with not even the presence of the Daleks really to elevate it to a higher level.

Ok,the Dalek voices are crap they spend 3/4's of the story stuck in a broom cupboard and when they attack the house at the end there's just 3 of em yet I still love it. Strangly for all the time travelling in Doctor Who , I think Day is about the only story in the classic series where the actions of people from the future coming back in time were the reasons why the thing they came to stop started.
Asfor The Ogrons they are a wonderfull creation and I'ed love to see them inthe new series but because of the politicalycorrect mad world we live in now I doubt it will ever happen as some muppet would inevtiably say it's racist. |

I loved all of Pertwee's Dalek stories
I seem to remember one of stories had the Daleks shoe-horned in at the last minute by the writers, so the story was kind of cobbled together, but it worked out none-the-less. Can't remember if it was this one though |

Larry mentioned the Ogrons, I think they were a good creation too but I think they were used more effectively in Frontier In Space.

I saw this that long ago I barely remember it, can remember being slightly dissapointed as I had read the Target novelisation years before I viewed it.
Nice to see Time and paradox's featuring in our beloved time travelling programme, it's bizarrely all too rare. I quite like stories where events are playing out in different time zones/periods. I saw the Coming Soon trailer for the DVD launch on another DVD release and the trailer (as it can do, and yes is it's purpose to entice you) is fantastic, but with that in mind it is a slightly underwhelming Dalek tale. Then again I think all the Pertwee Dalek tales are like this. In terms of a Dalek tale it is mid ranking, but is my slight favourite Pertwee Dalek story over Planet of the Daleks. |

I remember looking forward to this as a kid. The Daleks are back, oh Wow! Not impressed! I loved the time-travel element to it though. And the Doctor, Jo and Mike Yates in that big mansion. Guerillas were involved - I thought they were the Ogrons (as in Gorillas). Didn't like the Ogrons anyway - stupid beasts!
Not a good start to a series for me. Am I right in thinking this was the FIRST DW to feature the 'sting' at the end of the episode? (on TV that is, - they insert it onto certain DVD's anyway) |

No, I think they started the sting in Season 7 in The Ambassadors Of Death. I see why you might think that as the lead into the cliffhangers uses the sting quite extensively in this story.

This was one of the first stories I ever saw, didn't really understand it of course. lol
I think this is one of the best stories for the 3rd Doctor's character. I especially like the bit where he gives the Controller a telling-off at the possible poor treatment of "old men and women, even children?". And just generally being a grouchy git towards him.

This was the first ever Doctor Who story that I purchased on VHS and I remember being distinctly unimpressed as a child, but I love the special edition DVD so I guess it just takes a few special effects to keep me happy

It's the short musical cue that leads into the end credits and titles when the action stops at the end of an episode in stories in Classic Who stories from the 7th Season on. It's used more in New Who to lead into the titles and cliffhanger endings.
