Just listening to her music on my iPod this morning at work....just looked at her chart record. She was only successful in the US during Heaven on Earth and Runaway Horses. Live Your Life Be Free onwards tanked!! I was shocked at this, especially as LYLBF is not only a great 90's pop/rock effort (Rick Nowels baby!) but old Gogo bandmate Charlotte Caffey wrote a few tracks too. Why did it go so wrong for her in the US after 1990??

Belinda has had so many great songs - Heaven...obviously the one everyone remembers....but also....

Live Your Life Be Free

Lay Down Your Arms - I LOVE the "Real" album....Belinda minus the Rick Nowels production

Belinda needs a comeback and some kudos!!

I haven't heard many of her songs but I seriously LOVE the song Leave A Light On. It really takes you back to a more innocent, carefree time (in theory, anyway!).

I really should check out her albums.

hmm what went wrong, I think it was the quality of the songs in the 90's amongst other things.

Her autobiography (which is a very frustrating read) states that her drug problems took a hold in the 90's.

But she had a good run in the 80's

Summer Rain is one of my favourite songs ever. I never get tired listening to it. As soundstory says the quality of song went down massively when belinda ditched rick nowells and Ellen Shipley and started co-writing her own songs.

Yeah A Woman & A Man isn't that great - but I adore Real.....I guess after Live Your Life flopped Stateside - and the birth of grunge happened blowing 80's rock out of the water she needed a fresh approach. Real sounds like a hip garage band circa 1993 with Belinda on vocals. One With You, Where Love Hides, Goodbye Day and Here Comes My Baby are fresh for the year.

Really? I would say she peaked after Woman and a Man as In Too Deep and Always Breaking My Heart were both top ten hits. California and Love In The Key Of C were both minor hits too.

I love her Greatest Hits (1999 compilation)

Leave A Light on and Circle In The Sand are favourites of mine...also liked the go gos too....shame Carlisle didnt branch out to more success she had a striking image and a distinctive vocal....but alas.

CITS was played on Vintage TV this evening as part of the "Solo Breakouts" hour

The albums heaven on earth, runaway horses and live your life be free are all worth listening to.

Heaven is a place on earth was the first 7" single I bought.

Great pop songs. What happened to just good pop? Did someone leave it behind in the 80's?

I meant in America - I was looking at her chart runs and was shocked her final song in the "Hot 100" was Do You Feel Like I Feel which limped to #73 - the only song from "Live Your Life Be Free" to chart - not even the magnificent title track managed it.
In fact Runaway Horses only had 2 hits "Leave A Light On" #11 and "Summer Rain" #30....and the album itself only reached #37 and made gold.
It seems she was a one album wonder in her homeland - but we took her to our bosom until 1997!

Never that keen on her solo stuff but I adored The Go Go's in the early 80's.

Heaven and Earth and Runaway Horses are both very good, as is the greatest hits collection. A couple of the other albums are reasonable as well.

Ah yes sorry, yep I agree, very poorly received in America. I love Big Scary Animal, by far by favourite Belinda Carlisle song.

As part of The Go Gos I love Vacation.
