SD Card advice

Hi there, wasn't sure where to post this!

Just a general advice thread asking about SD cards.

I just bought the Panasonic Lumix SZ1 camera and I felt like the guy in the shop was fobbing me off about the SD card, so I didn't get one knowing I could come home and order online for cheaper.

Is there much difference in the type of SD cards I can get other than transfer rate increase? The guy in the shop suggested the photo quality is better, but surely that is down to the camera and not the memory card, right? Does the brand matter? I remember a few years ago Play.com selling Play branded memory cards!

Anyway, I'd love it if people could recommend the cheapest SD cards at 16GB and 32GB that would be suited to my digital camera, storing photos and the odd bit of video (720p) Would this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ctronics&psc=1 - be suitable? I'm not too bothered about the speed of transfer really, but £15 seems good value!

Many thanks

According to the manual Panasonic recommend SD cards of Class 4 or higher so the card you linked to should be OK. Never had any issues with Sandisk cards either.

It doesn't matter one jot what card you use. It is a digital camera, provided the data is stored identically without corruption on whatever card you use the results will be exactly the same. There is absolutely no way in this universe that the type of card can affect picture quality except by corrupting the data. It certainly will not make the blacks blacker or the colours more lifelike and vibrant or any such similar nonsense.

I suspect that had you fallen for the sales guys patter he would have directed you to some 100 quid card that he gets 95 quid profit on rather than the 20 quid ones that do exactly the same job but only earn him 5 quid. Or something like that

Thanks very much for the quick reply - I always trust in kind folk on Digital Spy before I make my tech decisions, haha.

I used Sandisks in my lumix for my honeymoon. It was faultless.
