Good 60's, 70's or 80's bands?

In need of good music

Can anyone recommend me some good bands or singers from either of these three decades? (Just not the obvious ones e.g Beatles, Queen etc)

80s - OMD, they've been back touring/writing again for the past five years or so, new album next year. Always been underrated, check out their back catalogue. Enola Gay to be played during the Olympics opening ceremony.

Beach Boys.

Pet Sounds is perhaps the greatest album ever made, even the early surf music that made them famous stands the test of time, but Pet Sounds and beyond is a very different animal, beautiful, well produced music .
I thought at the time they were better than the Beatles, still do, better performers, better songwriters.

The drummer Dennis Wilson's solo album Pacific Ocean Blue is fantastic too.

Split Enz - wonderful New Zealand band from the 70's/early 80's. Brilliant versatile band, very underrated with hardly any success over here!

Talk Talk - fantastic British band who had a few hits here in the early to mid 80's but their later, less commercial (and sadly more ignored stuff) that's just as good and should be checked out too!

For the 80's I would recommended the first 5 REM albums

Murmur
Reckoning
Fables of The Reconstruction
Lifes Rich Pageant
Document.

After they became global it is easy to forget just how much of an indie/alliterative band they were.

You can hear so much of the current crop of American alt bands in those 5 vastly influential albums.

The all male sixties incarnation of Fleetwood Mac are worth checking out too. I personally prefer them to later Fleetwood Mac.

couldn't agree more even McCartney said Brian Wilson is a genius and this pushed them on further to write better songs (shame you didn't write one good song Paul but w.e.)

Wilson is a musical genius.

Paul McCartney didn't write a single good song, is that what you're saying?

why is it that if someone dares to say the Beatles were no good you get treated like a leper?

no in my opinion and a hell of a lot of other people he didn't and the Beatles were over rated.

You didn't say The Beatles were over rated so no need to play the victim because nobody is treating you like a leper. You said Paul McCartney hasn't written a single good song, which seems a lot like a comment intended to get a reaction for the sake of it. You don't like The Beatles then fair enough, but to say out of all the songs he's ever written, there isn't one good one in the bunch? I can't take that seriously.
