£162 sim free on amazon,anyone got one? pros/cons looks great price,let me know,new to windows phone,a freind has an 800, all i use mobile for is texting,social networking,basic wb browsing

The present range of Nokia Windows Phone 7.X is will not be able to get an upgrade to Windows Phone 8 and support is pretty much reached end of it short support life with 7.8 and new models able to support Windows Phone 8 which will be out in a few moths time.

If you want something relatively cheap it might be ok if you can live with a dead end product. Otherwise wait a few months for Windows Phone 8.

I look at the 710 instead as it as virtually the same specs as the 800, dead product? if it suits you needs no product is dead. The 610 is a lower model, strange choice for nokia.

710 was available quite cheaply, it has more RAM than 610. These are great phones, I have 800, but there will be no upgrade to WP8. If you don't mind that, it will do everything you want from it very well.

every review i have read says the 610 is the best value smart phone.

it is completely true that it wont be upgraded to windows phone 8. but that is not the same as support ending for it. the phone will continue to be supported.

i don't think you'll find anything better at that price point.

As long as the phone works out of the box - which it will do you don't really need anymore support as such.

The only real issue is that as Windows 8 takes over there will be less and less apps dveloped that will work on Windows 7 - that's the only thing to concerned about and if that does not matter to you then I think you would enjoy the phone.

I've a Lumia 800 and find it to be perfect for me.

Like everyone has said, the 610 is much worse than the 710. And the 710 is much cheaper (£129) than the 610. So the 710 is the one to go for if you have to.

But windows phone 7 is dead and so are the phones you're looking to buy. There is no point buying a windows phone at the moment. Especially because there are no apps and if they are they cost more than the android/ios counterpart.

You can get much better Android phones such as the Huawei Ascend G300 for much less.

People have been running out stock of the 710 for a while now. I can't find it anywhere for less than £180.

The 610 does have limitations due to having half the RAM: from memory: no fast-switch multi-tasking, can't run some apps (approx 5% of the marketplace), no local scout.

Carphone Warehouse were doing the 710 for £100 a few weeks ago but last time I looked stocks had ran out. It looks like they are getting ready to discontinue the current Windows Phone 7 range and are discounting them to get rid of any excess stocks and make way for the new Windows Phone 8 range.

From Microsoft's press conference in WP8 it looked they are trying to make Apps easier to develop for WP8 and port. WP8 Apps will not be compatible with WP7 but WP8 will be able to run WP7 Apps.

710 definitely the one to go for then.

What do you mean no apps? Have you even looked? there are loads of them on there.

Is the G300 still stuck with gingerbread? Windows Phone is so much smoother than the older Androis OSs...it's 'buttery'

The G300 is supposed to get an upgrade to ICS at some point.

When i say no apps i don't literally mean no apps. I mean when you compare it to android, symbian, iOS etc... it doesn't have that many apps and if you're someone that likes to have apps for free or a lot of apps for different things then it's not good to buy windows phone 7. Especially because it won't have that much dev support in the future with WP8 coming out and not being released on any current devices.
