Earlier this month Mr Salmond said affection for the Queen north of the border is “strong”, adding: “Her Majesty will be Queen of Scots after independence.”
Personally I would say Mr Salmond is getting a little ahead of himself, they haven't thad a vote yet and I hope the majority of Scots choose to stay with us as a United Kingdom .

There is just something about that man that winds me up, like Bob Crow, Arthur Scargil and Tony Blair.

I don't see how he's getting ahead of himself. It's a fundamental question people will ask about independence, he needs to answer it before people will consider voting yes.

He is constantly getting ahead of himself as he speaks as though it is a foregone conclusion that the vote will go his way. For example using the words "after independence" as opposed to "if we vote for independence"

I think that's to be expected given his party and position. He won't want to look lacking in confidence.

He can't win with some. If he says something will happen after independence then he gets accused of being too forward. If he says wait and see he gets accused of not having thought it out properly!

I suppose if your whole life you were on show to the public and someone took away your favourite place of total sanctuary away from prying eyes and that person did so just because they could then you too might be upset.

I am sure if someone took away your house then you may be upset.

He could easily say " if we win the vote for Independence and I hope and am sure we will, we would be happy for the Queen to become Queen of Scots" . To me it's how you word things, to avoid speaking as though you have already won sounds less smug.

You cry over the loss of a loved one, not a chunk of metal owned by the taxpayer, the Scots should also have a referendum concerning the retainment of the Queen.

You do not have to own somewhere for it to be a home, ask a council tenant or someone who rents.

I may be Scottish born but i have no right to have a say in the future of the nation, that is the decision of the Scots alone, i don't believe they will go for independence BUT i do believe that Labour will never get close to forming a government in Holyrood for maybe a decade and a bit.

Do they also expect other people to pay for numerous 'homes' for them?

Hahaha.

That's almost as good as the queen mum saying she could finally look the East End in the eye after Buckingham Palace got a bit damaged in the war.

Good on her for not falling for the hype - if you read some news sources she (qm) was to be admired for saying that. It's like some people's brains fall out when it comes to anything *royal*.

She was very anti QM so would not have fallen for that guff but she ended up working at Buck House where she met my Grandfather who was a footman, she has a soft spot for the Queen though.

It's funny, in my experience a lot of the older generation seem to have actively disliked the Queen-mother. I wonder if this is common, and if the 'sweet old lady' image of her later years was just a media construct for the benefit of us young 'uns. My own grand-mother hasn't a good word to say about her (or Philip for that matter).

I personally listened to a story as told by my grandfather about her, to tell it would mean invoking 'godwins law'

her support in private for the nazi's and their cause was intimidating.

If I'd spent years training up to be a probing and insightful journalist.... and ended up having to describe the Queen's hat with gushing praise... I'd think "Where did I go wrong? How did I end up demeaning myself like this?"

She entertained Oswald Mosley on numerous occasions, and was a very keen contributor to various fascist groups. A story going around the palace was she regularly visited Mosley while he was in internment, constantly harassing Churchill for his release.

And she had a fair few affairs while married to Bertie.
