Documents appear to show PS3 Super Slim
Quote:
This would be really good if true, a new cheaper PS3 could be a really big boost. The PS3 sits at around £189 on Amazon, so I could see it being around £100. |

At the minute I'm torn between upgrading the HDD in my creaky old launch day 60gb PS3 (I'm convinced that YLOD can't be too far away) or shelling out on a new one (seems a lot of money to spend on something I essentially already have). I think I'll leave it a few weeks and see how this rumour pans out.
If I do buy a new console, I accept I'll have to make do with less USB ports, no memory card ports, and no PS2 disc compatibility whichever one I go for.... Hopefully they won't cut any other functionality in their quest for cost savings on the super-slim. |

You've done well if you still have a 60gb up and running.

I've still got my launch 60gb, and it gets hammered daily.
I am tempted to get a new PS3 if the price is right and it's a lot smaller. Either that or wait for the PS4. I dunno. I hope if they do a mini-PS3 that it's in the new white they've been advertising. Mark

for a £500 console to now be £100 = amazing. I think it might be £150 rather than 100. Seeing as the slim was announce at Gamescon, i can see the new slim being announce. Boost sales in preparation for ps4

Would be interested in getting a slim one depending on the price. Really want to play through the uncharted series.

I think the current slim is perfect at the moment! Would rather have them revamp the psn network

Hope they put a USB to the rear of the super slim, that would actually improve the machine instead of making this one big cost cutting exercise.

Wouldn't like to say, but I think it'll feel cheap compared to the last 2 models. I just hope they don't give it a flip-up disc tray like the slim PS2 used.

Sound like they might have..... On the latest firmware update, the menu option has been changed from "eject disc" to "remove disc"

They usually release a 'slim' just before canning the old model and releasing something new and amazing.
probably 12 months after this new one arrives at my guess. |

Just measured it based on this image:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c.../ps3new713.jpg Given that we know the power etc cannot change width, I worked out how long and high it is and it is the same as the Slim, give or take a little as the photo isn't perfect. So it isn't a 'super slim', just a el cheapo model. Which is odd, because they've saved money on a self-ejecting disk drive, but increased hard drive capacity, so I guess the internals have been re-done too. |

The 16GB must be internal flash and a cheaper model to market against the 360 S 4GB (3.72GB).
Unfortunately 16GB (14.88GB) isn't big enough to install a digital game larger than 8GB (7.44GB). It doesn't help that HDD prices haven't come down in a year either. |

Wow a slide door? Looks cheap but that may be a good thing so long as the price reflects that, should be no more than £99.

I think the 16gb will be priced similar to the 8gb 360, the other 2 alleged models will probably be £50 more each, which leaves the question... will the 16gb HDD be able to be upgraded, as that will probably be the cheapest option.
Bad points imo, it looks the worse console on the market, a cheap disc loading mechanism. It should sell well, I suppose that's all that matters isn't it??? I wouldn't buy one. |

It also means that discs would never get stuck in the event of system failure/a power cut. I doubt the 16GB storage would be a HDD. None of the manufacturers make a 16GB 2.5" SATA and Sony don't make hard drives. It would be cheaper per unit for Sony to buy a 500GB HDD as these are mass produced already. |

Chances are the 16GB is internal flash memory.
I think this is a great idea TBH, I would buy that model and just throw in my own HDD. It also makes the PS3 more appealing as a media player as the price will likely be around £100. |
