In what way would a top loading drive make the console more power efficient? it would be a negligible difference.

It's still a difference and they all add up. Fewer moving parts, requires less power to function. Presumably Sony have lowered the fabrication of the Cell and RSX too so they would also produce less heat.

Yes but it only uses power when you press the eject button, not all the time and as I said it would be maginal, it won't even be 1 watt.

Going by the leaked pictures it contains a 190w power supply as apposed to 250w of the slim which does suggest they have reduced the size of the Cell and RSX from 45nm to 32nm. This would lead to reduced power, heat and cost.

I don't think is matters what it looks like or how you get the disc in, a cheaper console when folk are cash strapped is a bloody good job. Watch the sales figures post launch. Good for the industry as a whole.

My guess would be that it will be close to the £100 mark for the one without an HDD.

I also wonder what the speed increase will be with games installed to the 16GB flash memory.

I still have a fat PS3 80GB which I mainly use as a Blu-ray player and and for playing PS3 exclusive games on.

If the price is right and the fan noise is much quite than my current fat PS3 80GB then I might well buy the PS3 Super Slim.

I would be intrested to find out the price of the PS3 Super Slim 500GB model.'

Hard to say, depending HDD at moment the PS3 ranges from £199.99-£249. RRP. I would say roughly

£99 16GB model

£149 250GB Model

£200 500GB model

Knowing Sony it will probably be cheaper to buy the 16GB version and buy a 500GB HDD for £50.

I doubt very much that we will see a PS4 in 2013, it will be 2014 at the earliest IMO and its unlikely to be under 300 quid.

The PS3 still has plenty of life left.

2013 is a strong possibility.

It won't be July/August though, it'll be November time.

We should see the 720 at least by then, Sony comments recently did kind of smell a bit of 'we know we're going to be last' so maybe early 2014 for them.

I'm (slowly) running out of space on my 1TB. Only got about 120GB free at the moment.

What's taking up all the space? I ever uninstall a game and use playtv and 500GB is plenty

I hope the new main board in this ps3 can support sata 3 speeds. So I can get the benefit of putting in a super fast solid state hard drive. That would be ace.

£40 cheaper than the 360 for a console that has been more expensive both to produce and at retail? Doubt that.

The 250Gb and 500Gb models will probably replace the 160Gb and 320Gb versions and keep the same price (£189.99/£229.99).

The 16Gb version will likely be £139.99 or £149.99 to match Xbox 360 4Gb.

I have around 130 digital games, installs and DLC from my game collection (both digital and retail), demos, music, SD TV shows and HD films. Most of it is game related.

I'd rather have the ability to upgrade the HDD cheaply than be forced to buy a proprietary one for SSD-equivalent prices!

Also, at around this stage of the previous generation Sony got the PS2 down to around £100, and have continued to support it, rather than dropping it like a stone the second they released their new console.

But Sony were making a profit on every PS2 sold and they had been for a very long time. Sony only started to make a profit on the PS3 in mid 2010. It would be great if they can price it that low but I think chopoff's pricing will be closer. I do think there would be at least a £20 difference between the 16GB and 250GB though.

There is little to stop retailers dropping the price that low, unless they want to make more money.

Indeed I have seen the 160GB PS3 at £150 quite a few times so I could see the new 16GB one hitting £100 even if the RRP is like £130.

I think about £140 for the 16GB model would be about right to compete with 360 4GB console. Interesting to see when Sony announce all the info.

Stuff Magazine has a artical about the Super Slim PS3 which seem to suggest that it will feature a sliding top disc tray. To me this looks very cool and very Bang & Olufsen.

Also in the Stuff artical they have a mocked up image which has been 3D rendered by Neogaf users.

http://www.stuff.tv/news/computers-a...appears-online

So it looks like Sony have desided that the Super Slim PS3 will not have a boaring pop up disc tray like the Playstation, PSone and Slim PS2 had.

Also from seeing images of the Super Slim PS3 it loos like it will have an external PSU like the XBOX 360 Slim and Slim PS2 has.

Also what will fan noise be like on the Super Slim PS3 compeared to the fat PS3 80GB that I currently have?

Yes it does.

I have checked my current fat PS3 80GB and the PSU socket is different to that on the Super Slim PS3.

Also the fat PS3 80GB has no external PSU brick like my XBOX 360 250GB Slim has.
