Anyone been watching the Indie 500 on VH2 - a marathon 500 track rundown, in full, of the best Indie music video's of all time.

Finishes tonight at 10pm, top 25 on now.

A great idea, I wonder how they've decided the top 500, since they don't have a website for VH2, only VH1.

I've seen lots of videos i've never seen before, and I'm a big watcher of music TV.

I was watching it on and off over the weekend. Some superb songs and many a "I'd forgotten about that!".

Well, because I decided to watch a film I didn't catch any of the last 25, so does anyone know the top 10, or 5, or even what got the number 1 spot?

Personally, my top 10 would probably change from week to week.

Number 2 was 'Fools Gold' by The Stone Roses, and Number 1 was 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' by The Smiths (one of my favourite songs ever ).

I only caught the very end, so those are the only ones I'm sure about, but I've got a feeling 'Seven Nation Army' was quite high up too ( I could be wrong, though, I just heard it from the kitchen)

So pleased that song won, me and my g/f were guessing throughout the day what it could be!

I'd guessed Smiths, as the programme following it was a rare Smiths live show!

Indeed 'There is a Light' is one of the finest songs ever.

Ahh, yes, bit of a giveaway, that!

Great choice for a number 1 by the way. ''This Charming Man'' is the Smiths video that seems to get trotted out most often by music channels so it's good to see VH2 gave things a bit more thought.

Well, as a motorsport fan who got excited when he saw the title in the EPG, I was very dissapointed!

Still, some good tunes there, and don't forget there's also a racetrack here called Rockingham, so The Rock 500 could be possible if they want to do another run-down....

.....or maybe not!

Was that the same Indie 500 that played bands that were signed to major record labels?!?!?!?!?

well the term indie is a bit vague, it was supposed to refer to distribution thus some bands on sony off-shoots got onto the indie chart but not bands on labels like Go Discs (or similar).

indie is more a genre of whiney white boy guitar pop... and i love it

It's like looking at the track listing for some never ending ''Shine'' compilation

Can't believe they've written Ned's Atomic Dustbin out of history either. But then I suppose you've got no chance when you're up against such ''indie'' heavyweights as Ocean Colour Scene & Kula Shaker

Ahh yes, a couple of tunes I had forgotten about which I really liked and still do. They are now regular played in my cd player ... Idlewild and Doves.
Good to see The Smiths being number 1, probably the first inspiration for Indie altogether. What a tune aswell....

Pffft. EVERYONE knows that Here Comes Your Man by the Pixies is the best song ever, never mind best indie song.

Its been great late 1am viewing. It has been a case of 'I'll go to bed when the next rubbish tune comes on'. Needless to say I was up a while. A few dodgy ones though.

A couple of idlewild tunes from their most recent album but they didn't include 'When I argue I see Shapes'. That I just don't get. Its an indie classic.

Nice to see Shady Lane by Pavement too though again, no Carrot Rope or Major Leagues.

'Seven Nation Army' at 11?
'Last night' at 7?
'F.E.A.R.' - Ian Brown's highest placing track? And not in the top 50 best indies songs of all time - not even the top 500 IMO.

Bah. You can't have it all I guess

Oh, and for anyone interested, Rough Trade have recently released a very good indiepop compilation.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...388536-4902241

I recommend the Juniper Moon, Monochrome Set, Television Personalities, Josef K, Aberfeldy and Mary Lou Lord tracks in particular.

Hmm, pretty good, but like most "best of" listings, far too many recent tracks. I mean, Razorlight? B*llocks.

And where are numbers 251-311 on the VH1 site?

Now *that's* what I call a proper indie compilation

Yeah, great song but I think I prefer Debaser

After seeing the list, I think there was definitely room for that Modest Mouse song

I actually thought 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' would be #1 but it's a lovely surprise to see Morrissey riding around my city come out on top. My favourite song of all time, too.

I know everyone will have their own opinions about the list but I just cannot believe that The Charlatans' 'One to Another' was at 445!
