So just cooked some dinner and opened a bag of "fresh" greens as I was making a salad to go with it. And inside there a large clump is partly defrosted and some of the leaves are soggy and look on the verge of rotten.
It's been frozen at some point when I was expecting fresh leaves.
(They have been in the fridge for a couple of days and nothing else in it is partially frozen so I know it is not my fridge setting. )

Now I have to go out and buy more. So going to make a complaint.

Take it back, they will happily replace it.

This has happened to me a lot with Tesco lately, mainly with cucumber. I had my Tesco delivery last Monday, and i wanted to use the cucumber for that evenings meal. The end was all soggy, so i removed it. And the middle was also soggy and clear ... as if it had been frozen. I just cut out the dodgy bits and used it because i needed it.

This has happened a couple of times.

Plus, i bought some pre washed grapes. I was tucking in without looking, and there was a very dodgy looking cobweb in the middle of them. I hope to god I didn't eat anything nasty. I will now wash them thoroughly before using in future.

I used to work in a distribution depot for Tesco, stuff like greens, cucumbers etc can often be partly frozen even though they've not been deliberately so.

It's usually due to the thermostat not being set correctly on the chilled wagon they arrive in.

Morrisons are the worst for this, their produce is always on the verge of death when you buy it.

I find quite a lot of supermarket prepackaged salad can be like this. I try to get the best dates possible and check it as best I can. Before buying

A couple of weeks back I picked up a yellow pepper in Sainsbury's only to find it wet. When I looked it was manky. On closer inspection several of the peppers in the tray were also manky or furry.

I started a thread about Morrisons rubbishy veg a few days ago - soggy cucumber and courgettes - supermarket veg is dreaful - now buying from local market, a lot nicer.

The key to any supermarket veg is check it carefully before buying I can honestly say I have never bought any manky veg but I have seen plenty in supermarkets and markets too.

I shop at Tesco every week but only for all my groceries.
I wouldn't buy any of their meat, fruit or vegtables.

All my meat I get from the local butcher - much cheaper & much, much nicer.
(Plus when you're a regular, they give you loads of freebies ).

Ditto the local fruit & veg shop.
For what you spend in one of the big supermarket chains, you'll get twice as much.

Never set foot in the place unless absolutely necessary (e.g running out of milk)

I'm very lucky where i live. In the same precinct as the main supermarket in town is a fruit and veg shop that has fresher, much better quality fruit and veg at a much cheaper price!
