My new classic strategy game: Vorble

Hello Digital Spy forums

I'm interested in game theory, complexity theory, chaos with emergent properties and outcomes, and all that good stuff and I came up with an idea for a board game about twenty years ago.

Board games are as old as human culture and there's evidence of board games some tens of thousands of years old but one thing that have in common is they are typically played on grid lines or squares/rectangles and more recently other shapes such as hexagons but always with a boundary or edge (be it square, rectangular, circular, or similar).

My idea was to have a board game without edges, the game is called Vorble.

For my board without edges I chose a truncated icosahedron, a three dimension shape that has 32 faces comprised of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons – a familiar version in every day life is a “soccer ball”, in the world of science it is a C60 fullerene molecule (or “buckyball”). The 32 faces present spaces on the games board.

Etan Ilfeld (Chief Organiser of the Mind Sports Olympiad) said “Vorble is a brilliant 3D strategy game that is simple to learn and provides hours of exercise for the imagination and the mind.”

* Mind Sports is the official term to represent international competitions of Chess, Go, Draughts, Contract Bridge, Chinese Chess and there's Mind Sport Olympics every four years as well as annual international tournaments.

Vorble was App of the Day on EuroGamer.net (the largest independent game review site in Europe) here App of the Day: Vorble with a really positive review that said things like:

“It's one of those ideas that seems so compact and perfectly self-contained, and so obvious once you've seen it in action, that you wonder why nobody did it before.”

“That there are still brilliant little ideas like this waiting to be realised is reassuring in a gaming landscape where repetition has become the norm.”

Vorble is in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian as is its website Vorble.com plus there's @vorble and facebook.com/vorble
