movies that havent aged well

following on from the tv series that havent aged well, which films havent aged well? i loved waynes world when it first came out and watched it on terrestrial the other night and sat there in complete awkward silence. It really was 'of it's time' but feels very dated now and with the exception of a few funny bits it was lame

Pretty much anything with 1990s CGI.

That said, Jurassic Park still looks great.

If you'd seen the recent rerelease of Jaws you'd see that it has aged brilliantly and puts many recent so-called blockbusters in the shade.

Saying Jaws hasn't aged well is ridiculous IMO

Gremlins

I loved it when it came out and for a while it was one of my 'Films to watch at Christmas' but the last time I saw it, it just looked like a load of puppets.

Well, Jaws is a classic, and time has not weathered it's status.

Scarface is so over-rated it's ridiculous. It's not in the same league as Jaws.

They were always better in black and white, the seventies films were just awful and people gave up on them.

When I first saw this thread I knew Scarface would come up and I think it is the music that makes it dated. As well as the disco scenes there is the music that accompanies some of the sequences that seem to create a droning sound.

Can't agree about Gremlins - Still think it is a brilliant movie -

The humour is just so black ( such as the old lady being shot through the roof on her stair lift which has been 'adjusted' by the gremlins.

Or the gremlin that gets turned into liquid in the blender.

And mowgli is just so cute.......

Swamp Man (though I'm sure it probably looked dodgy even when it was first released)

A lot of these 1980s fantasy and sci-fi films now look dated purely because of how far special effects have come along since then. Maybe a few films from the 1990s that were technology driven - The Net (still love it though) and Hackers being two examples. I guess a lot of older films will look inevitably dated in some aspects due to them being of their time, I just don't think this necessarily makes them any less enjoyable or entertaining. The dodgy 1980s music in Education Rita has aged that film a lot but it's still a great watch.

I'd say Troll 2 is more highly regarded now than it was when it came out. Back then it was just a rubbish horror movie. Today, it is a camp classic that defines the phrase "so bad its good."

The 1980's fteen films, such as St Elmo's Fire, About last Night et al have not aged well. They were of their time, but the idea of big haired people in shoulder pads hanging round in neon sign lit bars listening to Bonnie Tyler is a bit past it's sell by date....

This.

80's fashions were so ridiculous. Great music, though (I'm not thinking Bonnie Tyler).

I don't think it's fair to criticise films which were of their time for not ageing well. They appealed to culture of the time and reflected the 80s mood, they weren't meant to be timeless. If 80s films like Breakfast Club and St Elmo's Fire didn't have the big shoulder pads, the big hair, the 80s music etc then they wouldn't be representative of that culture and thus would have failed in their intent.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade hasn't aged as well as the first two. It doesn't have that ageless classic quality. imo.

Oh I love St Elmo's Fire. In terms of storyline, it's still as relevant as ever - people graduating from college/uni and finding that their shining promised future isn't there at all.

Catfish, even though it's only two or three years old. The subject it deals with is now so well known that the 'twist' is obvious within the first ten minutes, making the whole film pointless.
