Cheapo MP3 play with rewind and fast forward

can anyone recommend a cheap MP3 player that will allow you to fast forward, rewind, pause etc? (Just like a cassette player).

It would be better if it ran off AAA or AA rechargeables but if I need to buy a separate USB charger that's no big deal.

I only need this for playing speech for walking audio tours so sound quality is not very important. I bought one a few years back and was surprised it did not have this basic functionality so don't want to make the same mistake. Most of the blurb on the cheap players doesn't mention this so it may be that they all do this now but I just don't know.

i cannot guarantee that so check before buying but it should.

the yepp yp55 t had a wonderful "scroll through" function that took you to any place in a file. you might still pick one up. ebay.

most of these small mp3 players allow you to scroll through a file although it can be tricky .....

might do myself. very good value. specially as prices for basic players in shops now just silly.

samsung had this excellent mp3 range then abandoned it, seemingly for more trendy multi format players.

the sony walkman mp3 with fm is not quite as good and sells for about £40 !

the yp55 had this brilliant twiddle thing on end that let you easily scroll to any point in atrack. but all these dongle type cheap mp3s are basically the same. you have to hold a button down and then watch the time elapsed carefully to judge when to release. fiddly and not ideal but does work.

these things designed on assumption you have 2 minute pop songs and not half hour bbc podcasts !

They'll be fine, I don't mind a bit of effort to find the right place. The problem I had before was that the talks could be up to an hour long and on my previous cheap MP3 player (5 years ago I guess) if you pressed the wrong button half way through you had to play the whole thing again to get back to where you wanted - useless!
