Did anyone EVER hear U2, Boyzone or Westlife use such a word to define their fans...nope NEVER! I am ashamed that this little creep is Irish!
The best example of all would be Jedward who pass through Dublin airport all of the time and are aways mobbed by hordes of teenage girls. It's unthinkable they would swear in front of their fans or use that word. Perhaps the twins are a lot more grounded than Horan and are not losing the run of themselves.

I've heard it many a time as banter in Glasgow ("ya wee c**t") but in this context it would still be ill advised seeing as he doesn't know the people involved.

A lot of the language that you might get away with around the lads (or friendly girls) will offend people if posted on YouTube for the world to hear, regardless of the intention.

Is it my imagination or does he not appear to like the girls in the video? He seems quite angry at first and then relaxes, but his body language and tone of voice suggests he's trying to get away from them and doesn't really want to have much to do with them.

It seems to be in Northern Ireland with young men. I have family from there and while out and about it was shocking to hear such a word being bandied about almost as a term of endearment between male friends. Just awful.

I've just watched the video of this incident to see what all the fuss was about, and I'm astonished. From his claim of "banter" I thought it would be a scene of him spending a few moments with fans laughing and joking with them, but he really is just plain rude. He looks more like someone trying to get rid of unwanted press photographers.

I've no particular axe to grind against 1D but if that's the way any of them thinks it's acceptable to behave then they need a talking-to. And as Eurostar pointed out, it would be unimaginable for Jedward to do anything like this - a lot of people think they're complete idiots but they are extremely professional in this respect.

He is basicaly the "other" one who no- one realy takes any notice of or cares about. What a horrible little man. Hope they kick him out. Fast forward 3 years and he will be working in a shop.

Even if you take the foul mouthed quote out of the equation, he appears to regard the fans in this clip as a complete nuisance and is trying to get away from them as quickly as possible : the girls who are busy defending him on Youtube don't seem to be aware he doesn't actually like them.

The Potter cast are a great example for youngsters in the public eye on how to conduct themselves, you could tell even in the X Factor days that 1D were destined to become a bunch of brats, had a real sense of entitlement and they never even won the show!

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you Niall! But sadly, after some of the unbeliveable tweets some girls posted about Chris Brown, it seems some of these young girls actually like thier 'idols' to be complete sh!ts!!

Looking at his ugly spud face I can only assume he'll be the one who's gay in the group (every boyband has to have one, it's a box that needs to be ticked for some reason). Might also explain his vile attitude towards women.

Quite. Well said! 1Ds fanbase have put them where they 'are' (). They wanted the fame and adulation and they should have more respect for the people who are keeping them in bad haircuts.

What's with the "spud" face remark. Surely you could have left it at ugly if that's how you perceive him.

Are gay men misogynists then?? Why does being gay make you hate women?? I don't understand your meaning here.

No. Niall is the c**t, not his fans. Now that we know what he's really like we'll slag him all we want.

Erm, I'm Irish and about 5 or 6 years older than Niall - to be quite honest, I've heard that phrase used amongst friends countless times. But then you should also understand the context behind the language people use. If something is clearly said in a jokey, banter-like manner then I'd find outrage to it kind of silly, but that's just my opinion of course.

Anyway, how is calling him a pillock any better?

I actually find the replies in this thread even more offensive (if you can even call it that!) than what Niall actually said. The ''ugly spud face'' remark and the notion that he must be the ''gay one'' because he hates women! Granted, those came from the same person but it's still laughably stupid. He must hate women because he used 1 word that's brash on the ear? He must be gay because he hates women? Eh?

And then there was the post where someone went all out on the psychoanalysis - he's got a chip on his shoulder because blah blah blah... Sigmund Freud roams DS!

Besides, he's apologised for it (unnecessarily I have to say) because people got offended on others' behalf. What more can he do?

He wasn't talking to his friends though, and i know irish people that banter, but Niall did said that in a very negative way. It wasn't banter, it was him being an arse.

According to you he was being an arse! Don't see the young ladies that it was directed at feeling in any way offended, why should you.

Because i'm old enough to see that he was rather disrespectful.

Those girls will cringe about it when they grow up a bit.

He was being an arse, on camera. End of.

Yes, I agree with this. These girls are just in the throes of infatuation and one day they will grow out of this and look back and cringe - maybe even feel cross about it. At the minute they are probably excited to get ANY reaction...the fact it was a bad mannered and obnoxious one won't matter that much.
