I have this show recorded, well worth watching. The Beeb do rock/metal documentaries brilliantly.

My only criticism of them is that they always define metal as ending with Metallica. Certainly, Metallica were the last metal band to truly reach mega-stardom, but the likes of Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold have scored No. 1 albums and sell out arenas all over the world. Maybe a word with BFMV, an internationally successful Welsh metal band, would have been a good way to draw the program to a close.

As metal purist I don't consider Slipknot & Avenged Sevenfold Metal, sorry.

Dragonforce would have been a better example to use.

Watched it last night on the iPlayer. Very heavily focused on Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and the like. Of course, as a fan of all those bands I didn't mind too much

Still, it would have been nice if it had touched on today's heavy metal and maybe looked to the future of the genre.

Dragonforce?! Come on, bro. I saw them opening for Iron Maiden and they were awful; 5000 notes-per-second nonsense. Take away their contribution to Guitar Hero and no-one would ever have heard of them.

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't taken off in the same way the Punk one did

Dragon who?

Saxon or Warlock would be better examples. Maybe not Warlock but Doro Pesch used to look splendid in her spandex trousers and needs including.

What list is this again?

The punk one didn't have that many contributions. It's just turned into an endless argument about whether punk was more influential than disco.

Anyway, I agree about Dragonforce. Even the name sounds like a cartoon band.

Trust me, you do not want to know. Like an above poster, I saw them open for Iron Maiden and they were awful. They prioritise speed over lyrics or music.

It's interesting that Punk Britannia was drawn out into 3 programmes with the pre and post stuff, despite Punk only spanning a two year period, but one programme is deemed sufficent for Heavy Metal Britannia.

If it weren't for Guitar Hero, I'd have been asking "who are this crowd coming onstage?"
