There are articles on the BBC's internal Ariel site, and also in Broadcast magazine (the industry's leading paper) about the possibility of bringing back Eldorado which says that "award winning writers, creators, executive producers, TV executives and production companies have supported the idea of Eldorado returning to a possible daytime slot on British television"

So who would like to see the soap return as an alternative to the doom and gloom of Eastenders and Corrie etc?

Eldorado was brilliant in it's rubbishness. I think times have changed and folk don't want that sort of cheese these days. Could be wrong but would the dizzy acting heights of "but Bunneh I'm your wiiiife" go down well with people now? I did enjoy it but it was really bad.

I'd watch it again but looking forward to seeing Jessie Birdsall (sp) back on the screens in EE. I thought the programme was ok actually and I've seen far worse.

Is it true that it was getting 10 million viewers near the end of its run? How could the BBC have possibly justified axing it if so?!

It's interesting to see the set is still standing and judging by the pics in good condition too. I think a trashy, sunny soap would go down a treat right now. The new Dallas is doing well.

Yes this is true. The BBC justified its axing by basically believing that the vitriolic criticism of Eldorado at the start had damaged it completely, and had the potential to damage the BBC's credibility.

However, Eldorado was well-written and very well-acted in its final six months on air, with the inclusion of new characters and storylines that the audience really took to. I really believe that, had the BBC given Eldorado another year, it would still be on air today.

I think it was too late to reverse the decision by the time the ratings picked up. And anyway..way back then, 10 millions viewers wasn't considered nearly enough, when EastEnders (and Corrie) regularly got nearly 20 million viewers. The heady days of soap!!

Yes yes yes Eldorado should return! It would be a breath of fresh air with all the doom and gloom of our soaps, the world itself and our washout british summers! It would certainly cheer me up and there's definitely a gap in the market for it again. It was on fire when it ended and there was huge talent behind it both in the cast and crew. Resurrect it I say and brighten up the tv schedule!

I loved Eldorado and would watch it again. Just one thing, though - they'd have to put subtitles over the foreign-language scenes. One of the problems in the early days was the use of long Fenwch and Spanish dialogues with no translation.

It would make more sense just to have all the dialogue in English. You'd just have to suspend your disbelief when you had two Spanish characters talking in English, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I loved Eldorado and would love for them to bring it back. I'm tempted to write some fanfic synopsis of what has happened in Los Barcos since 1993.

I was just about to post that. Surely the time is right for a new soap to give the others a kick up the backside (god knows they all need it!). They could bring Marcus Tandy back and have the rest of the cast as all-new. Maybe they could have some character crossovers with EastEnders like the producers originally intended! Brannings sunning it up in Los Barcos anyone?

I was wondering where the BBC could put it but I suppose somewhere between 5pm and 6pm weekdays would work. They have lacked something to draw in viewers there since Neighbours moved to Channel Five.

I would love to see it happen. Plus as they still have the set and its going to waste it seems stupid to not try it out again.

Oh and I agree with the Enders cross over. That could be a good way of launching the show again.

Yes! I'd give it another go, it wouldn't even matter if none of the original characters were there, it has been almost 20 years, they could all have moved on, leaving a gap for new, interesting characters.

I would love to see this return. It's already been said but if they had given this show another year I really think it would still be on air today.
It was such a waste of money as they axed it just when the ratings were rising and it was really good by the end.
All that said I seriously doubt this will happen.
