I wonder why the BBC haven't used it for anything else?

Also on one of the soap magazines last month, I saw Jesse Birdsall who is linked to Sharon's comeback storyline, who I believe is supposed to be her ex-lover.

They could have linked the two soaps and had his character be Marcus Tandy from Eldorado.

As I've said before, I loved Eldorado, but the idea of it coming back will only ever be "golden dreams"

In the mind of the general public it doesn't matter that the show improved drasticly in it's final 6 months and that the viewing figures reached a respectable level, it will always be remembered as one of the BBC's biggest and most expensive failures and they will never touch it with a bargepole.

That doesn't mean that the set may not be taken over for a new series, be it a drama, a soap or a comedy. But Eldoado, as we knew it, is gone.

No. Eldorado was atrocious and one of British TV's biggest ever disasters. If people think Eldorado can therefore succeed in the future off it's past notoriety, they are very much mistaken.

I don't think it should have been axed when it was as the storylines were just starting to get interesting but after this amount of time I can't see it happening. How would they explain the break in time?

Who would actually come back from the cast that were left when it was axed? Only Marcus and Pilar and possibly Drew's children. The older cast members characters would have aged too much now for it to be plausible.

If they cast a whole load of new characters that would be too difficult for the audience to identify with all these years later. Even if the BBC could find space in the schedules the other main problem remains that was another main problem last time that Eastenders is the BBC's soap Unlike ITV with Emmerdale and Coronation Street I don't think that there's enough of a viewing appetite for two strong soaps on the BBC.

surely something could be done with the set if they aren't gonner bring Elorado back the set would be good for a reality TV show or something.

In my opinion it was the final six months which killed it. Prior to that we'd had some interesting characters and storylines. But then they got bogged down in a ludicrous comic gangster plot, and a 'would they or would they not have an affair' boring couple.

The thing about TV revival's is that viewers and critics build their expectations too high therefore can often be disappointed, I honestly believe that some things honestly belong in the past.

I cannot see Eldorado regaining the same audience as it once did.

I don't think Eldorado should have been axed.

Admittedly it was rubbish at first but the last few months it had really improved and I actually quite liked it when they axed it. It was axed too soon and should have been given more time as it was definitely improving as a show.

From Wiki:

The set is still in existence and after lying empty for
several years, it is now a hotel complex called Hotel
Ciudad Del Cine and is situated near the village of Coín
which is in the hills above the Costa Del Sol.

Just found this:

The problem Eldorado always had is like the TV execs keep saying. It came way before its time. The idea of having foreign tourists on an English speaking channel communicate in their own native language was too much for audiences in the early 90s to take. Nowadays though it would be seen as trendy and hip.

That said I can't see it returning either but it seems like a massive waste having that impressive set just lay there empty.

See post 38 : it's now a holiday complex, though well inland.

The series had characters with problems in the 1990s : they could have even bigger topics now. The euro, land confiscation, timeshare cons, It would definitely be worth making a new series.

Wikipedia is wrong, the set was only briefly used as a holiday camp a few years ago, but is now unused (the keys were apparently handed back 4 weeks ago) so it is once again a ghost town (and apparently looking the same as it was 20 years ago).

Sadly I think not. Not unless the BBC freed up some time in its prime time schedule by axing another soap offering such as Casualty or Holby City. I just dont think the BBC Trust would allow any more time on BBC One to be filled with another soap.

Only pretentious idiots would consider such a thing trendy. 'The idea of having foreign tourists on an English speaking channel communicate in their own native language' isn't ahead of it's time; it's technicolour vomit.

Yes, bring back Eldorado and hope they bring back Nessa Lockhead.
I loved her as a teenager, my first ever crush
would be great to see more disabled actors/actresses in Soaps

From what I remember it improved a lot by the end. It's a shame they didn't continue it.

Brannings sunning it up in Los Barcos anyone? ”

If that happens it would kill it off quite quickly , no crossovers please , I liked Eldorado

They should use it for EE. Have Phil go on the run or something again and be hiding out in Spain, maybe with Ben. And they discover a long list of ex EE cons living out there like Chrissie Watts, Dan Sullivan and Paul Trueman (having faked his own death).

Or they could do like a flash back soap bubble to when Chrissie and Den lived abroad.

Or use it to send them off on holiday.

Maybe not Eldorado but a reality show for C5?

It's set on the Eldo set as a sort of 'Escape from NY' thing, it could air 5 nights a week after H&A and it would be based around female celebs living in it for how long the show lasts.

Celebs include One Life to Live's Erika Slezak (with One Life fans still moaning over ABC's business decision on the soap to join her and moaning at Brian Frons, ABC, etc), Nadine Coyle, Kourtney Kardashian, Amy Childs, etc.

And Fiona Spence,Elspeth Ballantyne and Patsy King preside over as governors, and all 3 keeping straight faces having to endure Erika, who's not the only one to have her soap cancelled.
