No signal for Freeview
Hello folks,
Moved into a new flat last weekend and bought a new tv on Thursday to go with existing digibox. Cables are connected to wall socket, but autoscan cannot find any Freeview channels - no signal appears to be getting through. Have tried connecting aerial cable to tv directly, and have also followed digitaluk's advice of doing a scan with the aerial unplugged, which hasn't worked either. The roof aerials seem to be facing the same way as neighbours, so I can't see that it's that. I'll call digitaluk again on Monday, but any suggestions in the meantime? |

No point calling DigitalUK frankly. They can't really help in this situation.
Do you know that there is actually an aerial attached to that wall plate? You say it is a flat. Does the property have a communal system or is every flat expected to install their own? If it is a communal system then you need to speak to whoever is responsible for managing the flats to check the system out. If each flat has it's own aerial then the aerial may have been removed. It may have a masthead amplifier which needs a power supply that has been removed. Or it may have an amplifier somewhere that is switched off. Some other things to check. Take the wall plate off and see first off if there is a cable attached. If there is then check how well it is terminated. Especially the screen braid. Only needs a few stray strands of braid to work loose and touch the inner conductor terminal to screw things up. |

Well it's just two flats in the property. I've spoken to the other tenants, who have a signal but it's very weak...
Will investigate further I guess. |

Phone a few TV aerial guys and ask them how much they charge to check your signal strength via the cable, or ask the neighbours if there's a guy who lives locally who everyone trusts. It's an easy job to check as long as they have the equipment. Take it from there. If the other tenants are willing, ask them to share the cost with you.
