I just think it's great that we all love Genesis from whatever era we've heard them - so thank you Aston villa for this thread, you've brought back so many memories for me

Yes. Song sequencing on an album can be very important as far as as overall listening experience is concerned. Los Endos is quite jazzy in the first half (before reprise) and reminds me of jazz-fusion band Wearher Report who were around then.. Phil's drumming on that is brilliant. Ripples was also THE track on that album to to highlight Phil as replacement vocalist for Peter Gabriel. What a decision that turned out to be as Phil originally had no intention or desire to step into Gabriel's shoes.

Probably my equal favorite group along with The Smiths and Shack. Love all the albums up to Duke, but stopped buying them after that. Fave track is always a tricky one but really I suppose it HAS to be Suppers Ready(prrobably the live version from Seconds Out). Saw them do that live in 1980. The soundtrack of my teen years.

Lots of cross fertilisation of ideas then. Chester Thompson was the drummer in Weather Report. Phil, at the time was also involved in another Jazz fusion project - Brand X - a band which also featured Bill Bruford.

I really rate Trespass. Such a unique sound and the album that got me hooked. A shame Ant Phillips didn't stick around to do one more album as the 3 BBC sessions and demos in the 1970-75 Box are cool too.

Maybe it helped that he sounded very much like him.

I love Genesis - although i have to say I'm much more familiar with the Phil Collins era than Peter Gabriel.
My favourite songs are The Lady Lies, Mama, Jesus He Knows Me, I Can't Dance and That's All. Spent many happy car trips wailing away to those!

I got the vinyl version and the remastered albums sound absolutely stunning.

For me the Gabriel era was my favourite.

Prefer the Gabriel era of Genesis but a Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering with Phil on vocals are great albums too.

I first got into Genesis over 10 years ago. Already into Pink Floyd, I stumbled across an online prog rock radio station back in the days of 'ye olde dial uppe' internet.

Anyhoo...on came 'Firth of Fifth' in it's entirety and wow, it blew my mind. So I bought the 1973 album 'Selling England by the Pound.

A superb purchase - not a bad track on it. Absolutely loved 'the Cinema Show' on the first few plays, starting off like a fairly ordinary rock song but when the intrumental kicks in towards the end...brilliant. Especially Tony Banks's keyboards. Couldn't believe it was an album from as early as 1973 with those superb keyboards.

Bought all the other early era albums. 'The Musical Box' from the Nursery Cryme album also amazed me. There is a great live version on YouTube, performed on Belgian TV.
