Amelia Lily - "You Bring Me Joy"
I found this link today for Amelia's debut single:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2paY...e_gdata_player I do like it but I feel its lacking some oooompht, it keeps wanting to go somewhere but never quite does. I think I'll grow to love it though. I read that it's released August 26th, how do you think it will do and what are your thoughts on the track? |

I voted for Amelia in X Factor and find this agreeable, but not particularly original unfortunately.

I absolutely love it. Its a bit like All Fired Up with the 'one long chorus' feel, but mixed with the sophistication of Florrie/Girls Aloud's last album. Xenomania have been on top form this year, what with Florrie, Gossip and now Amelia.

I like it. It grows in your brain as you listen, but I think the problem is that there is no build up to the start (maybe it's been cut off on that version) and the ending is quite sudden. The chorus isn't as distinguished as it should be either.
The video could make or break this, I think. |

It's not a full rip, for I love it already. I can picture the chorus being a big grower. Yes, it is slightly generic but what in the charts isn't these days? Generic will work for Amelia at the start of her career - she needs to get her foot in the door, then she can start experimenting with a new sound.

I loved Amelia on The X Factor and voted for her a few times, but I'm not sure with this song, love her voice, but I'm not a fan of the song, seems a bit samey. But won't rule it out all together yet!

It's um, ok
Another dance song? She can bring the dance trend back. I mean no one is doing dance music anymore. Vocally, she tiny reminds me a bit like Kelly clarkson. She could easily do Kelly clarkson type music which is very Pop/Rock. Incredible voice but like Misha, they are putting her music on generic dance crap. But i can imagine Amelia have next to no imput in what she brings out. |

It's pretty awful, but I'm more disappointed in Xenomania than Amelia. I never rated her at all on XFactor but Xenomania have written & produced some amazing pop songs and I thought they were better than this.

I'm not impressed by the first listen. Especially with how hyped it was by Popjustice! However, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt because it's not the full version and it's pretty rubbish quality.

Sounds like a Kelly Clarkson B-side.

It's alright but a bit generic. I look forward to the video though.

Not another one of these 'by the numbers' generic tunes...

Soon as I heard the title I knew she'd have trouble making it sound natural and flowing. There's something very jarring and forced about hearing the words "You bring me" sung really fast and then climaxing a word so naff as "Joy". I mean... what? Joy? Is that it? Not ecstasy? Or I dunno, and actual superlative emotion? It very uncomfortably contradicts the energetic production to see such bland lyrics sung so monotonously. A part of me wishes that if she wants to do dance, she needs to talk the talk to even get started - things like "I feel on top of the world" or "You're the only one my heart beats for" or some shit like that - at least you'd get a sense of exaggeration being necessity, so as to properly display her affection. Instead no, she's like "Oh I like you; I am joyous when you are around."
These lyrics - in the chorus particularly - sound like a Corrine Bailey Rae for ****'s sake, not a generic, run-of-the-mill, uptempo club stomper. |

The lyrics have nothing special indeed but let's not forget she's only 17 yo. There'd be something quite cringy hearing a 30sthg singing these kind of lyrics on that lazy electro beat. I wouldn't make anything of it on a folky beat. But you don't expect a 17yo singing these words and i do think there's something quite interesting about hearing Amelia, who had this tendency to be shouty, to sing with some measure. I see totally what you mean though...

I only thing I can give as a compliment to this song is the tune and that's it. Xenomania have inexorably put herself to shame all too soon.

Considering Brian Higgin's amazing work with Gossip's A Joyful Noise, he has pretty much gone a thousand step backwards
