Motion sickness

I've being playing Deus Ex Human Revolution and not long after, I started feeling nauseous, is this something only certain games cause as I've never experienced this before?

I was sat the normal distance from the tv, everything was normal as I always play games, I just don't understand why this is happening now and with this game.

Good game BTW, hope this doesn't become an issue for me.

HL1 and 2 was awful for motion sickness for me, and I think the first FEAR game. Not had it since though, so am hoping it was just those games (or the issue has gone away). Was horrible when I felt it coming on, then played for a few mins feeling worse and worse. One thing that worked to cure it was the seaband things for travel sickness, though you have to put them on a few mins before you play for them to do anything.

My friend can't play Half Life either. Apparently it has something to do with the field of view on there. On the PC version you could change this but not on consoles

It's weird - I started playing this last night and had to turn it off as I felt sick. Never even thought it could have been because of the game!

I had this with FPS games but trained myself out of it. You basically have to put up with it for a while until you get used to it.

It depends if you think it's worth the effort though. It took me a fair old while, perhaps a year to get used to it.

I suppose this can happen at any time although iv'e never suffered from motion sickness myself, It did take me a while to get used to 3D gaming (UC3 and GoW) It didn't make me feel sick but did make my eyes feel tired and strained and I couldn't do it for long periods but I put up with it and i'm guessing I got used to it after a few weeks.

I've had this for years and hit the problem that my son wanted to play FPS games with me.

I read somewhere about taking Root Ginger before playing and it has certainly helped me get rid of the sicky feeling. its available in health food shops in tablet form.

May help?

I'd recommend turning up the brightness on the game, or your TV, as staring into the gloom can greatly increase the chance of motion sickness.

Regards

Mark

I had issues with the N64. All games used to give me headaches but Mario 64 was the worst. Never happened before or since.

Half life on PC used to do this to me when climbing up stairwells.

Most recently using move controller on PS3 seems to have the same effect.

I might have to try the root ginger suggestion, or a few beers

I use to suffer really bad with motion sickness esp with FPS so stuck to platformers for years.
A lately it's not been so bad but cropped up when playing Portal so I bought some of those motion sickness wristbands from the Poundshop to my utter shock they did work. Probably more psychological than them being of actual use though.

I also never play games on an empty stomach now days.

Fortunately i've never really suffered this despite years of being a gamer. There is one exception though 'Dark Forces' the really old Star Wars FPS for PC is the one game that made me feel ill.
