iPlayer framerate

Sorry if this has been discussed but as I'm not quite sure how to explain it I'm equally unsure how to search it.

When watching iPlayer HD on a Virgin Media HD set top box, the framerate seems a little odd. My way of describing it is that of a 25fps video, it is actually delivering 20fps; at the end of the second it realises its mistake and throws the next 5 frames in.

The result is a video that mainly looks normal but suddenly speeds up very often.

I thought it was something to do with Virgin but I've recently acquired a Humax PVR which does the same.

It's very annoying in HD (SCD was just unwatchable) but I think it does the same in SD but is just less noticable.

Iam not using the same device, a WF TV live here and see big issues with interlaced source material.

Anything progressive sourced (film and most drama) on the HD option looks surprisingly good. Anything interlaced (studio based) and the motion looks awful. Looks like they are badly deinterlacing to 25fps.

This of course may not be the same issue as yours.

Ive found iplayers picture quality and frame the to be poor on my ps3 with similar problems to what you say, it didn't have great picture quality on my humax box as well before I changed to sky, but i find I get excellent quality and great Frame rate in both HD & SD on my LG BD565, it seems to take a different source of iplayer to the other 2 with great results and a better user menu.. Best peice of equipment I've bought....
