Pate Portion Sizes
I love pate but I'm the only one who does in my house. Whenever I buy it I always end up throwing half away.
I don't want to eat too much at once as it is fattening and rich but the packet sizes are always so large I have to eat it every day or it goes off before I finish it. Does anyone know of a way of preserving it? It seems to change colour after a few days and that makes me wary of eating it! |

I always freeze half when I buy it as my husband is the only one who eats it and has the same problems with the packs being too large.

I didn't know you can freeze it! Does that work out ok? That is awesome news. Do you just pop it in a plastic bag?

Yes it's fine it defrosts best in the fridge, and is perfectly OK just in a plastic bag in the freezer.

There are very few things you can't freeze.

I'm glad you said that - but I can't freeze rice that defrosts nicely. I know shops/ manufacturers can but home cooked rice without a sauce fails for me. Any tips? Sorry if I should start another thread - tell me.

Only time I have managed rice successfully was when I open froze it on a flat try, keeping grains as separate as possible, but it was quite a faff to do and it's easier to just cook it as needed I found.

![]() But as mollipops said, its fairly quick and easy to cook from scratch so I rarely bother cooking extra for freezing. |

Re: Walter and Mollie -
Thanks for your tips - You're right, freshly cooked is best; I was only thinking of leftovers. Rice is my least fav carb as I love potatoes but my husband likes rice. I guess for home use - rice, pasta & potatoes are best fresh.

If its overcooked then it definitely won't freeze well. Try to keep it separated as possible and freeze in an open container I find helps. Defrost in fridge and it should be fine.
But as mollipops said, its fairly quick and easy to cook from scratch so I rarely bother cooking extra for freezing. thank you all.

I find rice freezes fine! Can be heated up straight from freezer to microwave. I never defrost mine.
