What kind of things do you do in a steamer?
Can you cook fish & chicken in there as well as veg? thanks for any ideas!

Yes you can steam fish and chicken. According to the booklet that came with mine you can even steam a whole chicken - never tried it though - love mine roasted too much
![]() One problem I've found is that if you dont brown the meat first then it can be a bit bland so when recipe hunting bear in mind that something that sounds over spiced maybe tasteless if you cut back. |

You can cook most fish and meats in a steamer, but my advice is to season it first. If you are cooking chicken in a steamer, whole or pieces then slide some seasoning between the skin and the flesh. If the chicken is whole, cook it upside down so the juices run into the legs and breast. ( i do this when roasting one ) If you are cooking chicken fillets, make several small slits in the meat prior to steaming and seasoning.
Rice is easily cooked in a steamer too. You can chop some veg and steam that to mix in with the rice when it is cooked. I love cooking with my steamer. |

My 3 tier steamer is very good at making rice - especially jasmine and basmati. Though I tend to use a microwave steamer now, as I usually eat brown rice which needed a few hours soak before steaming. |

I have a 'rice steamer' and found it rubbish for making rice - I suspect 'cos I only do a single portion.

I'll buy a micro steamer in town tomorrow - I had one in my hands the other day and wondered. I'll go for one now!
