should I be concerned

My little cat (3 years old) has always eaten dry food - our other cat only eats wet food - little cat has just finished a course of antibiotics for a cough (all cured, nothing serious) and has suddenly abandoned her dry food in favour of other cats wet food, she headbuts him out of the way to get to it.

Her appetite seems to have increased as well, I know theres a problem if she loses appetite but is there any reason to be concerned about her suddenly switching from dry to wet? And eating more?

She drinks well and that doesnt seem to have changed.

The dry food is probably scratching her throat, which could be still sore from the coughing. The eating more could be because cats need more wet food than dry to fill them up, plus her little body will need more food to heal.

I've just spoken to the vet and they dont seem too concerned, although shes eating more shes still eating around about what she should be for her size - they mentioned the same about her throat.

They said it could be as simple as her tastes changing - same as us humans i suppose!

Good to hear, always best to give the vets a ring if you're worried!

It's probably a good thing eating exclusively dry food is not good for them in the long term

Changing her mind about what she prefers is not anything to worry about. I think the increase in appetite would only be indicative of a problem if it was excessive, i.e. she was hungry all the time, however much she ate.

Was she eating less when she had the cough? If she hadn't been eating as much for a few days, maybe she is making up for it now.

She wasnt eating less when she had the cough - she was very much of the 'little and often' routine, now she seems to prefer to have her 2 regular meals plus a few nibbles of her dry food throughout the day.

So she's not hungry all the time then? She has just changed her eating habits a bit? It sounds like she is probably okay.

Shes not hungry all the time - no worse than usual anyway, shes a little guts! Its just been a big change from a cat that would look at a dish of wet food and walk away without touching it to a cat who devours a dish in less than 5 minutes and then tries to steal other cats as well
