Films with the most pretentious fans
Donnie Darko - fans typically consider themselves cool, mysterious and alternative. THESE AINT NO JOHNNY COMMONERS. They enjoyed it so much they didn't know wtf was going on til they read about it years later on the internet.
![]() Most Gangster films - fans view themselves as loyal, honourable and family oreintated a la Godfather. But don't mess with them, they'll bust their caps (lock). |

That silent movie. How clever it was and you had to be clever to enjoy it.

The Tree of Life. People reading so much into it when it was actually a pretty blank canvas so you could read whatever you want into it.

Harry Potter.
Some adults talk like it's the most inspirational thing ever written, when it's actually just a series of kids books. |

You could actually whittle this down to the singular, i.e. which film has the most pretentious fan.
The answer, of course, would be The Exorcist. Now, who might I be thinking of...

Someone is only pretentious if they're not what they claim to be.

You've made it clear you dislike DD in the other thread you made, and i'm guessing you dislike mafia movies too. If anything is pretentious, it's this thread because it's clear you made it to diss fans of those movies due to your own dislike.
I'm a huge fan of mafia/gangster movies and I dont view myself as a family man at all. In regards to loyal and honourable, i'm sure a lot of people (not just mafia fans) would class themselves as so too. |

You can't even name the movie...The Artist...and if you did not enjoy it, just say so. But to assume you have to be clever to enjoy it? Do you realise what that says about you? |

Harry Potter and Twilight are good examples for me...I was once called a Muggle by a young child for saying I thought the movies were ok but nothing special.
And Twilight is a similar case...say you don't like the movies in the presence of young female company, and it elicits comments of the 'OMGOMGWHATSWRONGWIVYOU???' variety. For me it's more about tolerance, the sort of people that just can't respect the opinions of others, ie if you don't like what they like, and vice versa. |

I've found a few Hitchcock fans to be a bit pompous because I dared to say that I didn't enjoy some of his films as much as they did. To be honest I couldn't really give a flying fig about their opinions.

I was reading the current Boom studio comic, Clive Barkers Hellraiser (it has that in big letters on the cover in case you thought it was Miley Cyrus' Hellraiser. I guess!) and it's quite pretentious, especially given it's from a low rent horror, but I guess it's fans like that sorta of thing, so maybe Hellraiser.
