poisoning of cats

we have a problem here in essex where some very nasty people around here are putting down radiator fluid to stop cats from entering there gardens.
To me this is murder as a cat is not likely to live long and the people who do it should be made to drink radiator fluid they put down

Do you mean anti-freeze?

If so, presumably they're putting it down to try to prevent cats entering their own gardens so report them to the police and RSPCA.

Anti-freeze doesn't deter cats. They like the sweet taste. But a small amount is enough to kill a cat. Kidney failure and a slow and painful death if not treated.

It's criminal-phone the police.

I shouldn't even have read this and will stop myself posting what I want to as I don't want to be banned... how can some people be so heartless...

I think that is what they intend.

I see this mentioned every time this happens - before I comment further, I must state I think it is disgraceful.
However, cats cannot taste sweet things :- http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...t-taste-sweets
Therefore, they must be attracted by something else in anti-freeze.

If it so happened that someone out there met the people doing this in a dark alley and gave them a warning to change their ways, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I've heard of this happening more and more recently.

I would never dream of harming a cat, but I can understand why frustrated garden-owners might resort to doing this if they were at the end of their tether with cats making a mess in their garden.

I think I would probably keep a pet cat indoors, rather than needlessly exposing it to the risk of anti-freeze poisoning, being run over, dog attacks and being shot with air-guns.

Do you know it's deliberate? Anti-freeze can leak out of cars or be stored in somewhere that isn't very secure, and cats walk in and drink it. Perhaps you should ask people in the area to check for that sort of thing.
