HD only looks good on 32" tv's now

Anybody else find HD looks crap on larger sets these days? Maybe always been that way but my 32" looks proper HD. Other plasmas and HD tv's I've seen look grainy, blurry mostly LG and Samsung ones.

That's why I refuse to get a larger set. I reckon tv's of this size need Super HD.

Only if you stick with the awful "out of box" settings given you by most manufacturers.

Invest a little money and spend the time to set the TV up correctly then HD looks stunning on 42", 50". 60" and 110" screens. The latter is projection.

No; you just need a better TV.

And I hope you're not basing your opinion on what you see in the shops because it's the worst possible place to do an audition. Samsung and LG's plasmas are not highly rated. They are are a budget offering, whereas Panasonic's much more expensive GT and VT plasma series are considered to have amongst the best picture quality available.

You get what you pay for.

My Samsung projector shows a very crisp picture at 90 inches. Maybe you need some new specs.

Pure bollocks snobbery. For starters Samsung make some of the most expensive TV's and get the best reviews so I would make that quite highly rated.

Budget ?. I wouldn't call this budget

or these

They may not be as good as Pana's but that doesn't make them cheap.

Ask a TV engineer which brands they have to 'service' more often, I doubt Panasonic will be listed, Samsung and LG however.............

I'm still impressed with bluray on my 42" TV but it has nowhere near the clarity that my 32" had.

It should be the same if you view the two from a distance that makes them look the same size. with the same number of pixels on both the ones on the larger set will be larger so increasing the distance from the larger TV so that the larger pixels look the same size should give a near identical picture. all other things being equal.

Funny post......

Panasonic are no different to any other brand.....If you mass produce you will get lemons from time to time.

Everyone makes some absolute disasters occasionally

However, Sony and Panasonic are far more reliable than the other makes, and offer far better service as well. They are better made using higher quality components, and it shows - it's also why neither of them make any money at it, they can't compete with Samsung/LG etc. who use lower quality components to make cheaper TV's with less regard for their reliability.

Actually the best build quality and picture you can get at the mo is from the Panasonic Plasma line.

The pic blows top range samsungs nod lg out of the water.

I don't see it that way at all.

Almost all of the Japanese manufacturers were in the position you now ascribe to Sony/Panasonic, however they all realised that there was no profit in making stuff properly and trying to sell it in Europe, and one by one, either pulled out entirely or started lowering quality.

Sony and Panasonic included.

Both have obviously lowered quality, but it's still well above the other options (who started off at much lower quality, and have since lowered it even further).

Presumably you're not in the trade?, so don't see what makes go wrong more than others, and which are more reliable.

I used to be (not in the repair trade -- I was in the design field and worked with a couple of the companies in question -- one Japanese, one Korean -- and know which were the better).

I confess I have no recent experience with reliability, only as a consumer. Gave electronics up and moved into computer networks.
