Are people who smoke cigarettes considered drug addicts? what about people who go out drinking alcohol?

I dabble in the odd line of coke and a joint once in a while, it doesn't make me an addict.

I don't know her personal history or know if she was a junkie at the end of the day she wasn't harming you and she wasn't out on the rob to fund her drug taking (if she did take any) so to say that it's one less addict to worry about is rather crass.

From BBC website The couple's family has previously said the pair had battled to overcome drug addiction

So sad. Another example of money not being able to buy good health and happiness, for some. I hope their kids steer well away from substance abuse and go on to lead happier lives, although it's hard to imagine how they won't be tainted by this.

I see, thanks for that. Still it doesn't justify the comments made by stud. They may have been addicts but at least they didn't commit any crimes to fuel their addiction.

They didn't have to. She and her husband had wealth beyond anything most people could dream of. You won't like the fact that I agreed with stud actually. I am quite certain he/she did not mean one less drug addict for us to fear personally.

I feel sorry for the children.

*bump*

Hans Kristian Rausing has now been charged with "preventing lawful and decent burial" of his wife's body. Her body may have been there for four weeks.

BBC story here.

Independent article.

It's terrible - great wealth really doesn't buy happiness.

It's what you do with your money - compare Eva Rausing with Melinda Gates. Both have/had access to wealth beyond imagining but one is happy and the other needs drugs to help her cope with life. I can see why Bill and Melinda don't want to leave their kids uber wealthy.

Given that she was the wife of the heir to the Tetra Pak carton business, there's no point crying over spilt milk.

all very bizarre and sad. I have always thought if you had the money you could pay for excellent rehab and sort these things out but I guess not. I am hoping and presuming the 4 children are away at boarding school, what a very sad situation.
I am amazed the staff did not smell something dodgy a while ago and report it, doesn't bear thinking about, I hope those children were far away

Rehab only works if you really want to kick the habit and can get away from the influences that are leading you to self destruction.

I really feel sorry for the whole family and especially tragic Eva, she should have been saved but the illness of addiction affects everyone, both multi-millionaires and people who have to claim unemployment benefit.

I have MAJOR anxiety and depressive illnesses which have lead to painkiller addiction and I try to think positive and believe when I recover and overcome this illness then I will be able to use my experience to help other people who are going through a similar thing.

I do hate the Daily Mail's coverage of the story though, so offensive and disrespectful but then what do we expect of the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail is the newspaper that should have been closed down last year.

A lovely post that really stood out amongst all the shitty ones.

I've remembered why I usually avoid Showbiz.

I echo the sentiments of the above post. People are too quick to pull some witty one liners out of the bag when they know they don't have to be confronted in the real world. Cyber space does produce some nasty little trolls doesn't it?

I personally have no problem in expressing my views in the "real world", Whilst it is sad that they were not able to overcome their addictions and demons, it is my view that this was a lifestyle that they chose in the first place. However, it is tragic that this lady lost her life, and I do fear for her husband. I feel most sorry for the children and the rest of the family.

You would hope that having children was motivation enough to get and stay clean...but that's the tragic and most misunderstood thing about addiction...it's more powerful than love.

THIS. They delighted in showing her wandering round London looking rough, asking why NOBODY helped her.

Well phook me DM, but I live in the north of the country and work full time, perhaps you guys in Fleet Street, and clearly nearer all the action, not to mention peoples PHONES, could have done something for her, instead of just papping her final degrading moments?

Hateful, loathesome, vile creature of a paper.

No I don't like it either.

The other thing I massively hate about the British tabloids is that they write what they want with their own slant, but then don't allow comments esp. if a legal issue, so you cannot fire back, even though what they have written is usually highly biased or questionable.
