ITV4 - The Wicker Man (shocking PQ)

Did anyone else see this last night? The picture quality was absolutely dire here, for great swathes of the movie it was just a pixelated, blocky mess. Completely un-watchable to be honest.

I swear, at times the bit-rate must've been down in the single digits.

I agree - and it is the fault of the broadcast as often the next day highlights are a lot better (we series record both highlights - belt and braces!)

Perhaps they are getting Monet to paint it in real time !

Live TdeF does not seem too bad at the moment. At least it is as good as ITV4 ever gets on Freeview for me.

I rarely watch ITV4, but when I have done, I have always watched it via Freeview, and the picture quality seemed quite nice to me!

You must be very pleased by the quality of all digital TV if you think that rubbish looks good.

It just irritates me the way the motorcycle cameras focus on the advertising hoardings rather than the race half the time. picture quality is good when i have been watching, we are pre-DSO still, so maybe that is why.

I'd like to add Film4 last night when watching Aliens. I couldn't believe how poor it was.

It's almost at the point of being unwatchable now. What happened to the lovely Freeview picture quality of former years.

I watched it as well mate and it was fine for me, I don't have a massive telly so resolution is probably ok for what I have, the way I looked at it when buying was..bigger the panel lower the quality.. unless I was willing to splash out extra cash for HD content and that ain't gonna happen cos I'm a cheapskate.

ITV4 does vary over the day and sometimes it can get pretty dodgy but on average not so bad.

I think it depends on the area and as noted above the TV your using and if your watching via freeview or some other provider.

I have noticed that the bitrate of film4 has reduced significantly. Has the bitrate on the film4/ITV4 multiplex been cut?

i saw this film (not the remake) on itv-freesat and thought it was not too bad on picture (expected it to be a lot worse). We dont get itv 4 on freeview so cant compare.

I think some extra streams have been added to the mux recently which resulted in Film4 getting reduced in resolution from 720x576 to 544x576 so that's why you're probably noticing a worse picture.

Next week ITV4 has Europa League football, which will basically be unwatchable on Freeview due to the poor bitrate and resolution.

ITV4 on Freesat has a better picture and bitrate, trust me on that.

That sucks about the resolution on film4. The bitrate has definitely got worse.

I compared an old recording of Thirst film from film4 to the one recently on TV. The bitrate has gone down from 1752Kbps to 1373Kbps.

All channels on the COM muxes are 544x576.

Satellite ITV4 is certainly much better than the Freeview version.
