You've won a prize !!!

Good evening all.
I'm hoping that one of you good people could give me some advice please. Earlier today I was browsing the internet on my Samsung Galaxy S when a popup saying I'd won a prize appeared, I have never seen one on my phone before but despite hitting the back button the page wouldn't close.I stupidly hit next a couple of times but didn't enter any personal details at all. I guess I am seeking reassurance that I won't be charged as I know this is probably a scam. Thanks in advance for any advice

DON'T OPEN IT!! whatever you do or reply to it as its the same as an Email scam. It a Trojan (like you find on the Internet) Once you respond either using your Email or phone they will haver your details and can use this against you plus if its on your mobile you will be charged a hefty price.

That's a little Ott.. it sounds like the ads from gotfreebies.org not sure where they come from but I get them when I visit XDA but nowhere else. If you clicked on it check your history to find out what site it was.

Calm down!

Very unlikey to be a trojan on Android as well although very wise not to give out details - which the op hasn't

I found that the Home button exits the browser but on restarting the browser the popup still had control, menu and back were ineffective.
However Search opens a new tab and on switching back to the old tab the popup is gone.

Some apps have notification ads, I also have these on my SGS3 because of an MP3 downloader app I have installed, just ignore them, receiving that prize is just as likely as meeting that gorgeous woman in your area who wants to sleep with you

If it's going that extreme clear your cookies and cache too.

Thank you for the responses and advice, I did clear my browsing history and cache. I am normally careful when on my computer and wouldn't dream of using my laptop with no antivirus or firewall protection, all of which begs the question..what is your opinion of adding antivirus and ad-blocking software to your smart phone

You're less likely to get a virus on a smartphone than you are on a computer, but it does happen, so I would recommend installing an antivirus app

A virus from browsing for Android would be very rare, you'd be more likely to get one from an app. AV apps may be helpful but they'll slow your phone down, you'd be better off just sticking to websites & developers you know.
