Still got dial tone

I ceased my home phone last week as I don't need it any more, but there is still a dial tone on it and if I phone 1471, it says that there are no new numbers.

So will that dial tone stay now?

i know the phone number is dead as I tried to ring it and get nothing and the phone will not ring out to any other number apart from 1471, it may still do 999, don't know.

If its a BT line you can usually still hear a dial tone after disconnecting try dialling 17070 it should tell u a different number to the one you had if so its disconnected ready for the next person.

I think usually if you activate the line with BT then it will most likely use the one assigned to that line but they always tell you it isn't guaranteed until the line is reconnected.

I think at one point they used to only have one number for a line and people disconnecting could reconnect with the same number but I'm sure this changed probably due to someone moving and the next occupiers getting the last persons number.

I see. My wired phone is still connected to it, i have no idea why, can the line still dial 999?

a friend of mine was a bit worried when I said I was getting rid of the phone line, if there was a emergency.

i still got the mobile which is normally on me or by me anyway.

Not sure about that I have never tried usually every number says its not refinished except numbers like 17070 I don't think even 1471 works either but not 100% sure.
