Nintendo NES

I don't know why, but last night I randomly decided to see if our old NES still worked. It's been sitting in our spare room on a shelf for years, just gathering dust. Low and behold, it works! I don't think I've ever been so excited?!

Anyone else still using theres, or can recommend any decent games (other than the likes of Mario, Bionoic Commando, Zelda, TMHT?)

Nigel Mansell's World Championship Grand Prix.

Also Tetris if it was released on the NES.

And here is a link to an NES guide to racing games. I have had a quick look and there are some great racing games that were released on the NES.

I used to have Tetris DX on my Gameboy Color. I must dig it out again along with all my other classic games. I love retro gaming. Does anyone think we should have a separate subforum for retro gaming?

I emulate NES these days on the Wii. I used to have the old shoebox model back in the day but having re-bought one some time ago I couldn't put up with the RF output, though to some extent that's all part of it's charm eh?

I love the machine, so many games, a lot of junk but a lot of true classics.

Some cool games:

Twin Cobra
Mega Man 2
Duck Tales
Double Dragon II
Battletoads
Jackal
Kirby's Adventure
Micro Machines
Burai Fighter
RC Pro AM
Powerblade 1 & 2
Gun Nac
Cobra Triangle
Captain Skyhawk
Life Force
Parodius
Guardian Legend

Tetris being mentioned reminds me about Dr Mario....that was a pretty decent tetris-esque puzzler.

Batman, Batman, Batman... did I mention Batman? Seriously, get Batman, it's awesome. It's hard, but really great, and the music is brilliant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCA_msAEn8k

Also;

Castlevania (all of the three, but especially I and III)
Metroid,
A Boy and His Blob,
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles II: The Arcade Game,
Probotector (Contra),
StarTropics,
Shadow Warriors (Ninja Gaiden),
Street Gangs (River City Ransom).

There's more I could say, and some have said some in this thread already, but I wont post any more for now

I liked Star Wars, I only ever managed to get as far as the Death Star.
I recently got to play the Japanese version of Airwolf which is pretty good.

I discovered a few months ago that a original xbox would play these emulators and roms so great to play them instead of being restricted to a pc.

Ive got them on Xbox too, but prefer playing using an emulator on Wii as using the Wiimote is pretty much just like using an original NES pad.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll have a google at them all, and get a few. I'm assuming they won't be that expensive nowadays?!

Me too, the Wiimote is the most perfect wireless NES pad ever created. The Wii emulator also has the added benefit of 240p native resolution so these games look as good as they possibly can, more so than any PC emulator and even the machine itself as the original NES cannot be RGB modded unless you use a PlayChoice-10 PPU (essentially the video board from an arcade NES machine) but even then a lot of games are not compatible. I believe Wii NES emulation is the best way to play NES personally but Xbox is very good too.

How about something very new?

Battle Kid 2 is due for imminent release and I believe the first game is still available to buy.

Make no mistake it's a double-tough platformer - there's even a playable demo in that link that works on Nestopia or your NES emulator of choice.
