Cylindric redundancy file....dvd copying
Hi,
I'm trying to make a copy of dvd's i recieved yesterday. They are Training dvd's that work well when playing on Laptop When it comes to copying then to my hard drive i get a "Cylindric redundancy file" error. The strange thing is, all the dvd's are different but i get the same message for the same file on every disc. Cleaned discs, and all the usual stuff. Any advise? THanks |

It sounds like the discs have been copy protected.

cyclic redundancy check more than likely which is a basic data checking method, can you try a different machine to copy the files from the dvd as the dvd drive may be on its way out

Using DVD Decrypter may help. See this article here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_Decrypter
A post here http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-84606.html was of the opinion: "If you're getting this on most or all your DVD's then most likely your DVD drive is bad or soon to go bad |

I think you mean Cyclic Redundancy Check Error don't you? This is a common means of determining if a chunk of data is OK or not. It is entirely possible something has screwed up this particular file so you get the error.
Odd though that you get the same error on multiple disks. If it really is exactly the same file on each disk then that sort of suggests a problem with the file itself rather than the disks. |

As i say althought the discs are a ll different... ie one is for fire safety...another for manual handling etc.....they all seem to come up with the error. Tried AnyDVD which after 100% burning came up with error code...Common 0 5 4. |

the crc error is part of the copy protection i believe.
dvd copy protection apart from the css encryption is a bit of a black art. one of the tricks is to put the incorrect crc information on the disk so whenever it's being copied by a computer it will think there was an error when there wasn't. |

certainly if you were copying an option to ignore read errors would be good. when you copy the files to your hard disk are you running anydvd and copying them with windows or using the option in anydvd? |

OK decided to aquire a copy of DVDFAP platinum latest addition.
Copied to hard drive very quicky with no error messages. Seem to work fine too. It also So do you think DVDFAP found and erased the Files that were causing the issues with my other attempts? |

crc works like this: the actual data is written to the disk, then every so often a sum is done on that data. lets say every 5kb you add up all the numbers you've just written and write down the last 3 digits. then when you come to read the data back you read the data and every 5kb you do the same sum. if the sum gives the same answer as the one on the disk then you know that the data you have read is likely to be the same as it was intended to be when it was written. as a form of copy protection they deliberately get the sum wrong so when a computer reads it it will spit the dummy. |

I am surprised dvdfab worked and anydvd did not as dvdfab is very old. What version of anydvd are you using. If a recent version why not send query to slysoft so they can fix anydvd if needed. They are normally very fast.
