Going up to strangers on the tube is likely to get you chinned

OP-you mean the joke about the McCann's don't you?
yes it was offensive but isn't everything that awful man says-the profanaties and the attempt to try and shock is not what i'd call a comedian-i told him this in a tweet and was "blocked" so i guess the man can give abuse but cannot take it(although i didn't abuse him just pointed aout how immature i thought he was!)

And that's the crux of it.
I cannot stand Jimmy Carr but at least he seems able to take it on the chin. Frankie Boyle comes across as the kid in class who likes to shout out and be as rude as he can to get the teacher's attention. He doesn't like it when the ruler is thrown at him.

Good luck with that!

I see him live every year at the Glasgow Comedy Festival - he's Scotland's greatest living comedian. (only bettered by the late, great, Chick Murray). He always includes material about the McCanns.

Frankie Boyle is a poor, pale, imitation.

Frankie Boyle was funny years ago , when he first started on Mock the Week and a bit before that. But he soon stopped being amusing and started being shocking. His constant "joking" about paedophiles just got so dull and made me wonder how long it will be before he comes out with his own " I was abused" story. He got to be like the closetted gay man who can't stoop being saying homophobic things.

So agree. I liked him, initially, on MTW but the paedophile stuff began to grate after a while. Fine line between laughing out loud because of the shock value (before putting your hand over your mouth and thinking 'OMG, should I be laughing at that?) and thinking "Oh, OK, here we go again. Play a different tune, Frankie, FGS."

I think that comedians in general tend to have their trademark 'themes', potentially the things that make them funny. However, these themes do tend to have a shelf life and the clever comedians can recognize when it's beginning to wear down and adapt their approach without compromising what makes them funny. Others can get stuck in a groove and I think that's what's happened with FB and a few others who've been on the circuit a while.

What is the joke? Don't make a topic about it if you aren't going to link us to the damn joke.

What joke are you talking about, the Harvey or Rebecca Adlington one, or another one?
Frankie is/was very funny on MTW, I liked him on that, he was always class on SWLTS
The Katona stuff got annoying after a bit but that must have been his catchphrase like Hugh's car insurance thing

Yeah I thought he was hilarious when he first starte appearing on MTW but since he started getting loads of press attention (albeit negative) his "comedy" has become increasingly desperate.

His column (in The Sun I think) is just plain offensive with no humour interjected at all, Lorraine Kelly comes across as wittier in her column which tells you something!

I bet some people thought it was one of those plastic mops with a square sponge on the end, which folds double and rings itself out when you press a lever....

I know what you mean dory,I cannot believe a somewhat intelligent man thinks it's clever to tweet with the words and sayings that he uses- it is pretty sad
